Pontiac mother, 20, arraigned on child abuse charges

Pontiac — A 20-year-old mother has been arraigned on child abuse charges after her unconscious 3-month-old daughter was rushed to the hospital last week with bruised and broken ribs.

Pontiac resident Constance Johnson was arraigned Friday before 50th District Court Judge Cynthia Walker on first- and second-degree child abuse charges, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. She faces up to life in prison.

Johnson is currently being held in the Oakland County Jail on a $30,000 cash surety bond, officials said. She has no previous criminal history...

Pontiac woman charged with child abuse of baby, authorities investigating death of another baby

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a baby while the mother of another baby who was taken to the hospital with various injuries has been charged with felony child abuse.

Constance Johnson, 20, was charged Friday, Sept. 25 with one count each of first- and second-degree child abuse in 50th District Court. Her 3-month-old daughter is being treated for broken ribs, bruising and a “host of other injuries,” according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

First-degree child abuse is punishable by up to life in prison, while second-degree child abuse carries with it a 10-year sentence...

Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office also investigated the death of a 1-month old girl.

According to authorities, Makayala Lash was found in bed by her mother, a 34-year-old Pontiac woman, with vomit and a small amount of blood around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at a home on the 900 block of Canterbury Drive in Pontiac.

Makayala's mother claims she often slept with her baby. So, apparently she's suggesting she rolled over onto Makayala while she slept. Are the injuries consistent with suffocation?

I don't understand all of the violence against children, even little infants who are so defenseless and innocent.

Livonia police say they were called Monday, Sept. 21 to a home in the 38000 block of Summers for the report of an unresponsive infant child. Police said officers were told that while he was holding the baby the father fell down a flight of stairs in the home...
