$1billion has gone missing from Moldova, a former communist country that is still the poorest in Europe. It's caused a huge dent in the national budget and caused widespread public protests.
Now the money trail has bizarrely led back to a tiny council (project) apartment in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. It's the home of a 'shell' company run by chic Lithuanian Viktorija Zirnelyte, whose parent companies are registered in the Seychelles - although the owners have never been there and the registration documents don't appear to have originated there either. Viktorija insists she has 'nothing to worry about'.
It's a strange, complicated tale and the cash is still missing. Full details at the link.
