Specialist forensic examinations will continue for several weeks to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death of Becky Watts, police have said.

Becky, 16, described as “wonderful” by her family, vanished from her home in Crown Hill, Bristol, at 11.15am on 19 February.

A huge search operation was launched, leading to Becky’s body parts being discovered at a house in Barton Court, Bristol, on 2 March.

The jury aren't being asked to find the driving force though, they're being asked if they believe beyond reasonable doubt whether these two individuals committed murder..

I've said it before on other cases and I'll say it now it's remarkable the amount of women who are on trial for murder and suchlike who are supposedly controlled and browbeaten by their other halves

Friends and family always want to believe a loved one or a friend is innocent. Especially when it involves a controlling male in the relationship.

What friends and family want to believe about a suspect is irrelevant to the criminologist.

This case keeps reminding me of elements I saw in the Karla Homolka case. Same thing was happening at the time. Everybody thought she was a poor soul being dragged into heinous acts against her will by the evil sadistic husband. It even worked in her favor when she secured a plea deal with the prosecutor to go after Bernardo. Everybody at the time genuinely felt she was innocent. Then, tapes surfaced showing how complicit she was and how she enjoyed toying with the victims. The fact is, couples who engage in crime, are often equally complicit. They feed off each other. Each encouraging the other to go the extra mile.

In this case, maybe the female suspect showed contempt for Becky for reasons mentioned. Maybe the male suspect had a thing for younger girls. Over time, this back to back created a scenario that lead to where we are in this case.

I didn't think I could feel more sorry for Becky after she was murdered..... but it sounds like she had a pretty horrible life, not belonging anywhere, being resented by some members of the family, fearing her step brother and so on. I know we don't know what is true from what we are hearing, but there must be elements of truth in a lot of it.

Even her home doesn't look very nice, and her bedroom with its broken furniture and blinds makes me sad. I don't have a daughter, but even with my sons, always tidy up their rooms and make them look nice for when they come home from school and college, and always buys things to make their rooms comfy and personal - like nice rugs, cushions and so on. Her room just look so bleak. I don't meant she didn't have money spent on her - it just doesn't look like a room a teenage girl could be comfy in, if you get what I mean. It looks like its been neglected for a long time.

I agree. I feel so sorry for her and she seemed really sweet too.

What still confuses me, perhaps people can get me up to speed here, is her name. Why is she called Becky Watts? Why did she take her biological mother's surname and not her dad? Why was she not living with her biological mother and instead living with the father of whom she did not take the surname? There's something there with the family dynamics. But since it is largely irrelevant to the criminal case, it probably doesn't matter in the grand scheme.

Despicable!

<snip>

"It seemed more of an attention thing than a disorder."

Hoare added: "She became more confident because she lost weight and started getting more attention from boys.

"She started wearing more make-up and made her feel more womanly."

<snip>

Hoare told police that Becky would tell people she thought she was going to be raped, which Hoare claimed was an example of the way the teenager manipulated people.

That reeks of jealousy and contempt for Becky.

Piece of timeline from link below:

November and December 2014: Messages between Nathan Matthews and Shauna Hoare allegedly discuss kidnapping a teenage girl.

January 16 2015: Stun guns are delivered to their home, 14 Cotton Mill Lane, Barton Hill, Bristol.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3270610/Jurors-shown-bedroom-Becky-Watts-killed.html

So stun guns arrived approx a month before the murder occurred.
Great time line.

Few things I picked up:

1. That shower head is right down..they've bathed that child in there after everything they've done

2. Certain areas if Beckys home resemble the hoarding at NMS - wonder if the hoarding is a family trait?

3. The van used to transport Becky wasn't around for very long. I wonder if JI/KD really did just move the "packages" as they say, not realising

4. The text from SH to NM seems rather mocking.

5. Police wanted to search NMS property a whole 5 days before NMS fingerprint is found..so something tipped the police

Did anyone notice that SH and NM bathroom didn't look like it had a door, to me on the photographs it doesn't look like one is there it could be all the rubble about do you think its the way the pics are took? I just thought no privacy while completing his heinous crime

Perhaps the police took the door off to get the bath out

Going back to the previous thread where we discussed why the key had been left under the bin for NM/SH - just read back to the very first witness - the unnamed person BW spent the night before with. They stated that Becky was going to go home, shower then sleep before going to meet LO. Perhaps AG knew this (perhaps was Beckys regular pattern when staying over at friends) so left the key for NM so he wouldn't disturb her

Yes I find the surname thing interesting too. Also, I have realised from Facebook that Becky's brother Dan has recently (within the last couple of months maybe?) changed his surname from Galsworthy to Watts. He is very protective of his mother Tanya. I feel most sorry for Dan actually. It's heartbreaking.

I noticed that last week. He doesn't seem to have much to do with his father tbh, he seems to be trying to rebuild his own life

Regarding a post from previous thread about Becky's bedroom and the broken furniture/blinds - it COULD be that they were broken during the violent struggle?

Also, I have 3 daughters - my middle daughter had a brand new room - wallpaper, bed, bedding, beautiful furniture and between 16 and 18 she pretty much trashed the lot! Now she's 20 and buys her own stuff with her own money she takes more care ... also, although it's nice that you tidy your college age sons bedroom - most parents are not still tidying their kids rooms at that age!

As for the key, perhaps a spare key was routinely left outside.
It's not unusual for people to do this. I have a key hidden in case of emergencies - you would have to know where to look though, it would take a lot of luck to find it otherwise :shush:

The family "dynamics" is very complicated ( I hope Im allowed to say that?) there are a lot of them, most half brothers/sisters, step Grandmothers/fathers , Step Uncles etc, and its growing all the time, with other children coming out of the woodwork, making contact, lots of name changing ( some officially by deed poll, some not) . One of Beckys sisters is a Galsworthy but the other has a different name, one of the 22 year olds is a Great Uncle to another the same age, its very mixed up.

Becky was a Galsworthy then a Watts ( her choice). I dont want to say too much but the Galsworthy name is very well known.

Just an observation from the DM timeline. It appears that NM "struck lucky" the night that Becky's remains were moved. Both JI and KD were on a nightshift and had access to an Airbus vehicle. If this were not the case how would they have moved her remains? The Zafira and risk further contamination? Also the short time factor that the van was used possibly indicates that it was simply a "help us out with shifting some gear" ,they loaded, unloaded then left.

I know a few of us have commented on how this case reminds us of the Paul Bernardo/Karla Homolka case here in Canada. I've also noticed that we are grappling with the relationship between Shauna and Nathan. The link below is a very good article from Phsychology Today which examines the relationship between two people who murder TOGETHER. A very interesting read and my guess is that it might be very close to what has transpired between Shauna and Nathan. It might explain a whole lot.
