WALLER COUNTY, Texas - Investigators with the Waller County Sheriff’s Office spent several hours Wednesday night looking for evidence under a bridge near the Brazos River and Highway 290.

A few fishermen had been in the area earlier on Wednesday and they discovered a black garbage bag dumped about 50 feet from the water’s edge. The top of the bag was tied but the bottom had busted open and they were able see inside, they saw what looked like a human torso and called the police.

"What appears right now is that the arms, legs and head are missing,” said Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith. “I’m hoping we can get some DNA samples.”

Smith told KPRC 2 that his investigators had not been able to tell if the torso was male or female. They believe it had been in the area for two to three days.

The Waller County Sheriff's Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call 979-826-8266.

A human torso was found inside a plastic bag Wednesday afternoon near the river’s banks. Waller County investigators spent Thursday afternoon at the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Officer looking for any information to solve the mystery.

“It appeared that someone wanted that body to be found,” said Brian Cantrell, chief deputy for the Waller County Sheriff’s Office.

The men found a lawn and leaf bag with a small rip and saw what has now been confirmed to be a human torso inside.

“Whether it was retaliation, organized crime, drug cartel, it’s all mere speculation now,” said Cantrell. “But none of that’s being ruled out.”

Since they can't tell what the sex is, how long would the person had to have been deceased? Longer than a few days right?

I would think it had to be more than a few days, but I wouldn't hazard a guess as to how long without more information.

Paiglynn Raymond went missing April of this year just north of this county. Please update when more information becomes available on this. Thank you

The sheriff seems to think it's cartel related. They also think the bag had been there for several days.

Sheriff R. Glenn Smith says,"This with dismemberment, placed in a bag, put in a location, you know even to the point of a location what I am going to say has a significant amount of travel. It would almost appear that they would want that body found maybe to send a message. And and that goes back to your drug cartel, gangs, different things like that."

He also says nothing is being ruled out as this is still an on going investigation.

As for determining gender...

Police said the remains were so mutilated, they've been initially unable to determine even the victim's sex.

Namus file is no longer visible on this case - hopefully the person was ID.
