OH - Thieves steal hurricane donations, Cincinnati, 2005

Thieves steal hurricane relief donations from Cincinnati charity

CINCINNATI (AP) - A safe containing donations for Hurricane
Katrina relief efforts has been stolen from a Cincinnati charity.
Someone broke into the headquarters of the Society of Saint
Vincent de Paul earlier this week and took the safe. It contained
ten-thousand dollars, some of which was intended for hurricane
    victims.
Most of the donations were in the form of checks, which were
made out to the charity. Employees have notified donors to stop
payment on the checks through their banks.
Those banks involved have agreed to waive their fees.
The charity says it hopes donors whose checks were stolen will
send new donations after stopping payment on the original gifts.

OK, not a funny story - but on the main page, this is listed as "Thieves steal hurricane" - I thought the Onion had done another inspired parody.

Dk, i heard a similar story on our local news.. two louiville women applied for and received the $2,000 card for Harricane katrina victims- they said they were resdients of New Orleans but werent!

They track their purchases to places like Victoria secrets, Hooters...etc. Will go look up that link and post it.. really made me upset , people can stoop so low!
