Police Officer Shot in East Harlem, FDR Drive Shut Down: Sources

A police officer was shot in the head during a confrontation with an armed man by the FDR Drive in East Harlem, law enforcement sources say.
Police were first called to the area for a report of gunshots fired and an armed man riding a bicycle around 102nd Street, a senior police official tells NBC 4 New York.

When officers caught up with the man several blocks north, on 120th Street near the FDR Drive, a shootout ensued, the official said. An officer was shot in the head during the shootout and taken to Harlem Hospital.

The shot officer, who has 5 years on the job, worked in the anti-crime unit of PSA no. 5, a command that polices New York City Public Housing developments in East Harlem and Harlem, according to sources.

This is why stop and frisk should not be stopped. This guy may have been off the streets if Deblasio wasn't backing down. He is reversing everything that Bloomberg has done. Jmo.

His father and his grandfather were both police officers in Guyana, and Holder joined the NYPD after he moved here.

His father said and that he had dated Malika Clarke-Yarde, 33, since they were both 14 and recently split although they remained close with him helping her raise her child although he was not the father.

Sounds like Randolph was a kind person and a decent human being -- the kind of police officer we need ! Smdh.

I'm not saying this is worse because he was an immigrant, but think about coming to a new country and all the work and effort behind that... he lived in America intentionally just as he was intentionally a police officer and it adds another element of heartbreak.

RIP Officer Holder.

I agree, bluesneakers. I always think the same thing when someone who came here to live from another country is murdered. They often come to make a better life for themselves and their families. Officer Holder repaid his chosen country for the freedoms he was given by becoming a public servant, which sadly cost him his life.
 
NYPD: Gun that may have been used in officer's death found
Divers searching the Harlem River recovered a gun "consistent" with the weapon used to kill a police officer during a foot chase in Manhattan, the New York Police Department said Sunday.
Chief of Manhattan detectives William Aubry said the weapon was found around 3 a.m. Sunday. The gun will be tested for fingerprints and DNA, as well as test fired, to determine whether it is the same gun that was used to shoot Officer Rudolph Holder in the head.
"That firearm is consistent with the firearm that we were looking for," Aubry said.

I hope Sharpton does not use the funeral as a place to take jabs at the police. Even in the articles he does so, imo. Saying something like ' when we see an officer truly doing a good job then we have to stand up in support'---implying it is unusual...:facepalm:
