FL - Kaiyana Spence, 16, Fort Myers, 22 Oct 2015

When her grandmother came to the Spence home on Thursday afternoon to pick up Kai, she found her not there. The search began then in earnest.

A school friend told Spence's parents that she told her she was meeting someone that the friend did not know at the park. Other friends have told the family that Kai had a second, private pre-paid cell phone as well.

When her mother, Marcy Spence, called Kai's phone it had been turned off. When deputies tried, the phone had a recorded message.

Kai's friends said she had talked about leaving but hadn't seemed very serious about it, Marcy Spence said.

The discovery of an iPhone that wasn't hers in Kai's belongings earlier had the family concerned. "We didn't know where it came from and she said it was a friend's," Marcy Spence said. "But the friend said it was Kai's."

She said her daughter apparently had been active on Meet.com, a mobile phone application that helps users make new friends and reconnect with old ones on social networks like Facebook and Google Plus. She said, however, that the app erases signon data every time a user signs off, rendering it useless to track from.

Kaiyana Jo Spence, 16, a student at Cypress Lake High School, is active in marching band, concert band and softball - not the type you think of when you hear about a runaway child.

The official sheriff's report on Kai's disappearance said that when Marcy Spence called Kai's phone it had been turned off. When deputies tried, the phone had a recorded message.

Amazing the second phone was an iphone per that article! Not a cheap throwaway.

Kai's disappearance has the family confused and worried.

"We've been sitting on the couch so if she walks in we'll be right there," Marcy Spence said. "My imagination...I'm trying to stay positive."

She said Kai's younger sister, Asha, is shell-shocked. "Its impossible to believe her sister abandon her," she said, adding the two girls were close.

"We've never been apart willingly, and not knowing where she is," Marcy Spence said.

    <snip>

A lady reached out to me on Facebook last night," Marcy Spence said, and told her how to create a public page on Facebook to help find Kai.

Like her phone, Kaiyana's social media accounts and her debit card are silent. The detectives questioned her parents, friends, and anyone she spoke with in person or online.

I'm guessing she actually did meet someone on this site, and in person. The second phone belongs to that person, and was given to her to contact them without their contact info being on Kaiyana's phone.

Classic predator tactic. GOODNESS, when will teenage girls stop doing this!! They know this stuff happens, they know it happens to girls their age, but they always think "it can't happen to me". Until it does.

HOPING she's safe and okay, wherever she is.

Kaiyana was last seen at Rutenberg Park. Her parents said she left school and walked to a playground with a girl from class. Her father, Corey Spence, said the fact his daughter hasn't reach out to them is not like her.

Kaiyana's social media accounts and her debit card are silent.

Would she run away? "I think she did walk away, but not with the intention of staying away this long," her father said.

I really hope and pray this one turns out ok. Her parents sound supportive, so she can go home. Please don't be afraid to just go home. Praying she is safe.... Girlfriends, y'all really need to step it up and take care of each other.... Tell a parent, guidance counselor, teacher, any adult if you see your friend headed down the wrong path.
