This is getting rather serious. The tether ropes have grabbed onto, pulled and knocked out some power lines. As heard on CNN.

I heard the tethers (not ropes) were supposed to withstand a hurricane. Rut Roh. Maybe they should have thrown some cheap cement where it was tethered to the ground. HUGE

A cable connected to the untethered JLENS blimp is dragging along the ground in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and causing massive power outages, Columbia County Department of Public Safety Director Fred Hunsinger said. (...)

Hunsinger went on to say that there are no reports of injuries or deaths, but the dragging of the blimp's cable has school leaders taking precautions to protect children as classes begin to let out for the day.

There are currently more than 20,000 without power in the Bloomsburg area, according to Joe Nixon with PPL Electric.

Currently it's in Columbia County, PA, close to the ground, slowly losing pressure. The cables are 1-2 inches thick and are metal.

I knew they weren't ropes but couldn't think of the proper term at the time, which is tether cables.

    The blimp's twitter:

"Not technically a blimp. I am an aerostat that hovers over Aberdeen, MD watching the skies with my lidless eye. Until I get tired and descend to the earth."

Leave it to our government to have named it something so complex that even the acronym cannot be used. The JLENS is a shorter acronym to the real acronym which is JLACMENSS which means "Joint Land-Attack Cruise Missile Elevated Netted Sensor System".
