This one could end up in the gulf, so we better pay attention to it.

WE all could get lucky with this one. Philippe is out there spinning like a fish storm so maybe both of them will leave us alone.

MIAMI - A hurricane watch was issued for the Florida Keys as a tropical depression moved over the southern Bahamas on Sunday and was expected to strengthen into a named storm, forecasters said.

The depression had the potential to cross into the Gulf of Mexico, the National Hurricane Center said.

The watch means that hurricane conditions with sustained wind of at least 74 mph are possible by late Monday, according to the Miami-based hurricane center.

A hurricane watch was posted for the entire Florida Keys.

"It does look like that there is the potential for it to become a hurricane, near or just before it reaches the Florida Keys," said Daniel Brown, a meteorologist at the National Hurricane Center.

The watch means that hurricane conditions with sustained wind of at least 74 mph are possible by late Monday, according to the Miami-based hurricane center.

Long-term forecasts show the system heading generally toward the west in the Gulf of Mexico toward Texas or Mexico later in the week, but such forecasts are subject to large errors. That means that areas ravaged by Hurricane Katrina could potentially be in the storm's path.

"Once it reaches the Gulf, really everybody should pay attention at that point," Brown said.

My hope is that it stays weak, and won't do much damage.

OMG...lol..Wilma. Can you imagine telling your grandkids...yeah honey, we lost everything in the great storm of WILMA. I know storms are not funny. Especially ones in the GOM...when you live along the coastal areas. But, I did laugh out loud when I saw that name. What were they thinking!?!? Probably that the name would never be used. IMO

Let's just hope that no one finds this name catchy along with Wilda and start naming their kids this.

    Hey MaryKate!

Yes, there is a mandatory evacuation order for all tourists in the Keys vicinity - not sure about residents.

"Rita" may still be only a tropical depression but a "state of emergency" has already been issued. Looks like the Keys are right in her path as she makes her way into the Gulf toward the Texas/Mexico coastline.

Sure hope you have a bag packed, car gassed, cash from the ATM, meds and all necessities for the furry family members ready to roll on out of there.

    Stay Safe, MaryKate!!
