After a week-long trial, a Beaver County jury deliberated for nearly nine hours before convicting Earl L. Hollins, 29, of shooting former Harmony Township police officer Alan Loskoch.

“It’s a good thing,” Loskoch said after the verdict was announced. Police officers from several local departments were present throughout the trial, and Loskoch thanked them for their “unbelievable” support.

“I didn’t do it,” he said twice.

After a more than two-week trial, Hollins was found guilty in September of shooting former Harmony Township police officer Alan Loskoch in the chest.

Beaver County Judge Harry Knafelc sentenced Hollins to between 23 and 46 years in prison.

When asked to address Hollins, Loskoch looked at him directly.

“You’re a coward,” he said.

When he had the chance to address the court, Hollins said he “looked up” to law enforcement as a child. He said his family is standing behind him as he is convicted of a crime he didn’t commit.

“My heart goes out to the officer that was shot,” Hollins said, adding he wants Loskoch to know “they got the wrong person.”

The siblings of a man recently convicted of shooting a Harmony Township police officer are facing charges after police said they assaulted a woman and blamed her for their brother being found guilty.

According to a police report, Elroy L. Hollins, 30, Eric L. Hollins, 29, and Brittney Hollins, 28, assaulted a woman inside their Irwin Street home, causing her injuries which required hospitalization.

Alleging he was harassed and forced into retirement, a former police officer injured in a 2015 shooting has filed an employment discrimination lawsuit against the township, its board of commissioners and police chief.

Alan Loskoch filed suit Nov. 29 against Harmony Township; Commissioners Glenn Angus, Paul Kokoski, Donald Gunther, Bradley Payne and Michael Marticek; and Police Chief Robert Sivewright.

Loskoch alleges in the lawsuit that he was “harassed and discriminated against” because of hearing damage caused by a shooting he was involved in while working as a township police officer. Earl Hollins, 30, of Aliquippa was convicted of attempted homicide as a result of the shooting and, after a two-week trial, was sentenced to between 23 and 46 years in prison.
