BSO: Toddler reported missing in Weston

"An 18-month old boy was reported missing from his Weston home Sunday, setting off a search by air, land and sea, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

The call came in to BSO at about 4 p.m. that the boy had gone missing from his home at 417 Lakeview Dr."

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

    From One's link:

The boy and his family live in Tampa and were visiting relatives at the Racket Club Apartments, officials said.

"They were having a great weekend like many of us were, a Halloween weekend with family," said Sheriff Scott Israel.

Vihaan's mother and father noticed he was missing and searched for about 20 minutes before calling 911.

"Like any family, they began frantically looking for their young son, they got others involved," Israel said.

Vihaan usually takes a nap in the late afternoon, and some in the apartment may have assumed that's where he was, Israel said.

It was unclear late Sunday how the boy got out of the apartment.

Me too. I vaguely remember Weston from when Arvida was developing it, back in the... 1980's? '90's? We looked at some of the single-family homes there but ended up staying in Miami for other reasons. It's a nice, family-oriented community from what I remember.

It abuts the Everglades and there are many canals in the area. I hope little Vihaan didn't find one of those canals.

Bloodhounds, helicopters and divers searched near the 400 block of Lakeview Drive for more than five hours Sunday night, said Broward Sheriff's spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.

Deputies planned to continue searching overnight, following up on an earlier door-to-door search in which they asked residents whether they had seen Vihaan with a search of residents' apartments.

A dive team suspended activities at 9:30 p.m. and is scheduled to resume Monday morning.

I hate hearing about all of the dive teams. So many of these missing toddlers end up in ponds and canals.

Thanks, that's a good link for updates. It's almost 11:30 there now and people are still coming out to search.
