When a 64-year-old man was struck and killed by a pickup on First Street in Lehighton last November, the driver of the vehicle that struck him had a high dose of Valium in her system.

She also tested positive for marijuana, police said.

Jennifer Roxanne Coleman, 44, of 15 N. Shore Drive, Albrightsville is facing various charges for the death of Vincent John Smith of Lehighton. Police said Smith was struck by an F-150 truck that Coleman was driving. They stopped her vehicle about five miles from the accident scene thanks to a witness to the fatal crash, who following her and relayed her whereabouts to a police dispatcher.

Details of the incident were disclosed during a preliminary hearing conducted Wednesday morning before District Judge Edward M. Lewis of Jim Thorpe.

An Albrightsville woman pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Monday afternoon to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, in a deadly hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.

Jennifer Roxanne Coleman, 46, of 15 N. Shore Drive, also pleaded to one count of DUI of a controlled substance for an incident on Nov. 8, 2015, along South First Street in Lehighton.

She was driving a Ford F-150 pickup that struck Vincent Smith Sr., 64, of Lehighton. Smith was taken to the Lehighton hospital then flown to St. Luke’s in Bethlehem, where he died.

Sentencing is currently scheduled for January 19th.

An Albrightsville woman was sentenced to at least three to a maximum of 10 years in a state prison Friday for a deadly hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in Lehighton.

Judge Steven R. Serfass sentenced Jennifer Roxanne Coleman, 46, to serve the prison term on a charge of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.

On Friday she continued to claim that she could not remember the incident, but said, “I’m taking full responsibility for my actions. I will carry this with me the rest of my life.” She added, “I’m sorry this ever happened, and I apologize to the family.”
