    CA - Sam, 85, & Maria Walko 90, Rohnert Park, 7 Nov 2015

A statewide Silver Alert has been issued for people to be on the lookout for a missing Sonoma County elderly couple. Sam and Maria Walko have not been seen since Saturday. Police say they're both suffering from early stages of dementia and they could be lost.

Sam Walko is 85 years old and his wife Maria Walko is 90.

Sam was supposed to take Maria to the hospital on Saturday because they thought she had a medical emergency, but the couple never showed up. Their car is gone and the couple is nowhere to be found.

The couple emigrated from Hungary. Both are very independent and Sam is a Holocaust survivor.

Police believe the couple may be driving their faded green 2001 Toyota Camry with license plate 4NHV446.

Law enforcement have issued a "Silver Alert" for a Rohnert Park couple, who could be traveling north to Canada.

Szabolcs "Sam" Walko, 85, stands at 5 feet 10 inches, weighing 146 pounds with blue eyes and gray hair and was last seen wearing a light-colored button up shirt, with brown pants.

His wife Maria Walko, 90, is 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 108 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt, with gray pants.

Oh goodness! Hope they are safe somewhere - but it doesn't sound good, does it?

    more info:

On Saturday afternoon around 4 p.m., crews responded to the home of Szabolcs “Sam” and Maria Walko on Maureen Lane for a medical call. The medical issue appeared to have passed, but crews contacted the couple’s son, who lives in Europe, and recommended that Maria Walko be checked out at a hospital just to be safe.

The following day, the son called police to say he had been unable to get in touch with his parents and that they never showed up at the hospital. Officers went to the couple’s home, but found no sign of them and their car was gone. The couple’s son told police his parents have medical issues and may have become disoriented while driving and, because they have dual citizenship in the U.S. and Canada, the couple may be driving north.

Officers are regularly going by their Maureen Lane home to see if they’ve returned, but so far there is no sign of the couple.

They were seen Saturday by officers and paramedics who were called to their home at 4:10 a.m. when Maria Walko awoke feeling like she was having a medical problem. The couple then assured officers that while she had health issues she was feeling better and they would get her to their doctor on their own.

Rohnert Park police were searching in the Healdsburg area Tuesday afternoon after learning they were at a Healdsburg bank late Monday afternoon.

Sam and Maria Walko, missing from their home since the weekend, withdrew a large amount of cash.

The pair told a bank clerk they were headed for a medical appointment for Maria Walko but there was no record of their having been to a Kaiser medical facility after the 4 p.m. bank stop.

Why stop at the bank to withdraw the cash? I wonder if they mean 500 or more? I hope they are found at a motel somewhere. Just resting.

I just saw a clip on this couple on the news. Nothing more than what I'm reading here. It worries me to wonder if someone nefarious could have observed an elderly couple exiting a bank with a large sum of cash? I hate thinking like that but I don't know. I hope they are okay and found or heard from soon.

    found safe!

The couple was found at a hotel in Paso Robles in San Luis Obispo County. Another traveler recognized the couple and called Paso Robles police, who then contacted Rohner Park police. "They wanted to get away for a while and did not tell anybody."

Oh so glad they were found!

They remind me of my parents, who are now unable to drive. My dad is Hungarian, and he was always stubborn and independent. It's great that the are still up to traveling and wanting to get away for a while, but it sounds like they don't have a local support system to check in on them. It was their son in Europe that alerted police when he couldn't reach them.
Please be aware that what I type is my opinion.
