    Rodney Alcala Trial info

A man awaiting retrial for the 1979 killing of an Orange County girl has been indicted in the murders of four women during the 1970s.

Although he allegedly killed the women in Los Angeles County, 62-year-old Rodney Alcala will be tried in Orange County by prosecutors from both counties.

Alcala is in custody awaiting his third trial in the death of 12-year-old Robin Samsoe, who vanished near the Huntington Beach Pier as she rode her bicycle to a ballet lesson. Two previous convictions were overturned on appeal, but not before Alcala spent 20 years on death row.

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

I'm glad to hear that he has been locked up since the first trial. I hope they nail his rear good and that they watch each word so that there will be no more retrials. I wonder what happened that he got two retrials for the same trial? Someone messed up royal. After he is found guilty for 4 murders they should just take him out and shoot him in front of the courthouse.

Rodney James Alcala, who won new trials after both of his death sentences for the slaying of Robin Samsoe, was linked to four other unsolved murders from the 1970s through DNA and blood evidence, prosecutors said.

“Clearly the only punishment appropriate for Mr. Alcala is the death penalty, and we will pursue it again,” Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said at a joint press conference with Los Angeles prosecutors.

The indictment charges Alcala, a freelance photographer, with killing Jill Barcomb, 18, and Georgia Wixted, 27, in 1977, Charlotte Lamb, 32, in 1978 and Jill Parenteau, 21, in 1979. All four were beaten, sexually assaulted and strangled.

A man awaiting retrial for the 1979 slaying of a 12-year-old girl has been indicted in the murders of four women during the 1970s, prosecutors announced Monday.

Rodney Alcala, 62, was connected to three of the other cases by DNA and to the fourth case by blood evidence, according to authorities. All the victims were sexually assaulted and strangled.

Sometimes it takes a really long time. Blessed be the prosecutors and investigators who never give up.

A man awaiting retrial for the 1979 killing of a California girl has been indicted in the murders of four young women during the 1970s including an 18-year-old from central New York.

Jill Barcomb had left Oneida and moved west with friends in October 1977. Her body was found on a dirt road in a remote area of Los Angeles on November 10th, 1977.

Authorities say Alcala was connected to the other cases through D-N-A evidence.

    Update on this trial

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100111/...slayings_trial

It is clear to me that there is something very broken in the justice system.

Alcala will be representing himself for this capital trial-all five killings have been combined into one. The mother of the twelve year old he was TWICE convicted of killing has been fielding phone calls from Alcala regarding her testimony-can you picture this in your head guys???

This guy has been on death row since the 80's-has been in prison since 1979, has recently been tied to a series of rapes, strangulations and brutal beatings via DNA and has a past criminal history of violent sexual assault on young girls.

He will never be executed likely because of his age. So he gets to "play" attorney on the dime of the government-he is calling previous prosecutors as witnesses in his current trial.

In this case, the inmate is running the prison.

Hopefully this will be the last time this little girl's family has to endure. How unfair to make them go through 3 trials. This guy is just a POS and should not be given any rights at all.

Suspected Serial Killer Alcala to Take Witness Stand

    KTLA News

    9:12 AM PST, February 9, 2010

SANTA ANA -- Suspected serial killer Rodney Alcala, who is acting as his own attorney, is expected to take the witness stand Tuesday on his own behalf. He is also likely to show jurors a video of himself from a 1978 episode of the "Dating Game."

The 10 minute video of Alcala, 66, as the winning "Bachelor Number 1" surfaced last week on YouTube and will likely be shown to jurors Tuesday morning, according to prosecutor Matt Murphy.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Francisco Briseno agreed to allow the showing of the video after Murphy didn't object to the motion.

Alcala says he wants to show the video to prove he was wearing gold ball earings, contradicting the mother of one of his alleged victims who says an earing found in Alcala's possession after he was arrested belonged to her daughter.

Alcala, considered by many as a genius with an IQ between 160 and 170, is on trial for a third time for the June 1979 murder of 12 year old Robin Samsoe in Huntington Beach. He was sentenced to death twice for Samsoe's murder, but both guilty verdicts were overturned on procedural matters.

She never went out with him. I just saw this tonight on a show.

How terribly sad. So sad for Robin's family. Where is the justice? Or is this how "justice" works?

kbl, this link mentions why the woman on the show didn't go out with him. More importantly out of everything I read about Alcala I didn't know that in 1968 he was caught in his apartment after he lured a little second grade girl there. More like abducted her obviously. A concerned citizen called police. They found this little girl barely alive. He escaped for two years to the East Coast. He's so cocky he got hired for a theater and the arts program for kids. Then California pulled their cr*p and let him out. Ya know rehabilitation and all that.

Also I didn't know if it even means a thing but he was a film student of Roman Polanski. A second grader left barely alive?

I haven't seen any updates since last week. The courts were closed for the Presidents' Day holiday on Monday, but you would expect testimony to continue on Tuesday. I'll keep looking.

Here are some thoughts from the judge (now retired) who presided over Alcala's second trial for the murder of young Robin Samsoe. He's pretty upset, as well he should be, that this monster's death sentence was overturned by what he calls "a bunch of hacks".
