"Officers responded to a call for unknown trouble at 68 Elfreda Blvd., in the Birchmount Road and St. Clair Avenue West area, on Wednesday afternoon. Inside, they found the victim dead and her body showed "obvious signs of trauma," according to homicide Det. Shannon Dawson.

Police are treating her death as a homicide.

The victim also appears to have been robbed, Dawson told reporters outside the victim's home on Thursday afternoon. Investigators have confirmed that one item was removed from the home and believe that other items were also taken.

Dawson would not offer specifics about the items.

Dawson described the victim as "a vibrant 82-year-old" who was "an important part of this community." She was well-known to neighbours, and was often seen gardening outside her home, she said"

"She characterized the incident as "random," and advised residents to have "heightened awareness of their surroundings."

"A 21-year-old man has been arrested in the death of "vibrant" 82-year-old Stella Tetsos, who was found dead inside her Scarborough home on Wednesday.

Sinbad King Simba Marshall was arrested last night and charged with second-degree murder and break and enter.

Marshall appeared in Toronto court Friday morning and has been remanded in custody until Nov. 25.

Peter Tsirlis, Tetsos's nephew, said his aunt was a beloved member of his family who leaves behind two adult children and many grandchildren".

"Man accused in murder of elderly woman was on probation"

"Police say Marshall was arrested in connection with a break-and-enter in the same area in 2013 that left the homeowner with serious injuries.

According to courts records, on June 14 of that year, Marshall was accused of assaulting and robbing a woman at a home in the Birchmount and Danforth area.

Of the 12 charges he faced, Marshall was convicted of aggravated assault and breaching a probation order. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail and three years probation, but got credit for serving 10 months in pretrial custody.

Tetsos’ nephew, Peter Tsirlis, who was in court on Friday along with the victim’s sister-in-law Anna Kotsopoulos, said punishment was not enough for Marshall since he is accused of re-offending.

Kotsopoulos was overcome with grief as she described what it was like to see the accused.

“I don’t think she was even 80 pounds. To see that guy there, so strong, it’s devastating. And I had to come to see what he looked like. Poor lady, I can’t imagine. It shouldn’t have happened,” she said."

Man accused
Man found guilty of 2nd-degree murder for beating of Toronto grandmother during break-in
"It took jury took less than two days to convict 25-year-old Sinbad Marshall of the second-degree murder of a Scarborough senior, who was killed in her own home during a break-and-enter.

It was on Nov. 11, 2015, when Stella Tetsos was found badly beaten in the basement of her bungalow near Birchmount Road and St Clair Avenue East. The house had been ransacked and various items of jewelry were missing."

"The following day, while police were conducting surveillance near Woodbine Avenue and O’Connor Drive on Marshall, officers noticed a gold ring with a turquoise stone on Marshall’s hand that matched the description of a piece of jewelry missing from Tetsos’s home. Marshall was arrested and charged with her murder."
Marshall was convicted of a number of charges, including assault causing bodily harm after a violent break-in in the same Scarborough neighbourhood in June 2013. In that case, Marshall held a knife to an elderly woman’s throat and threatened to kill her. He was convicted and was sentenced to 18 months in jail and three years probation.

While on probation after being released from prison, Marshall was charged with another assault in May 2015. In that case, he pulled gold chains from the neck of his victim after choking him. Marshall pleaded guilty to those charges and was out bail, awaiting his sentence."

Toronto man given life sentence for beating elderly woman to death in her own home
Sept 8 2020 rbbm
''A Toronto man who brutally beat an elderly mother and grandmother in her Scarborough home in November 2015 during a break-and-enter has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for at least 18 years.

“Everything about this case is tragic. Ms (Stella) Tetsos was a frail 82-year-old grandma. Sinbad Marshall broke every rib in her chest. It was a cowardly murder of a vulnerable woman with extreme violence,” said Justice Robert Goldstein of Superior Court of Justice in Toronto as he delivered his sentence to 25-year-old Sinbad Marshall via video conference.''

''While Goldstein delivered his reasons for sentencing, there was a loud outburst from Marshall at one point who was appearing via video from jail. “You’ve given me so much time. I’m going to appeal this whole trial,” said an angered Marshall.''

“Sinbad Marshall is an indigenous young man and his jury was composed of 11 white people and only one person of colour,” Marshall’s lawyer Christopher Hicks told Global News in January.''
