CA - Craig 'Cork' Illig, 62, San Diego, 14 Nov 2015

    Craig "Cork" Illig

Police searching for missing Linda Vista man
"The San Diego Police Department called on the public Sunday to help locate a Linda Vista man who has been missing for eight days.

Craig "Cork" Illig, 62, last spoke to his brother on his cell phone at around 5:40 p.m on Nov. 14. He was last seen earlier that day at around 12 p.m. in his front yard at 2365 Langmuir St. in Linda Vista.

A neighbor told police he saw Illig return home via a taxi, clad in a blue hospital gown.

At 6:40 a.m. on Nov. 16, another neighbor found Illig's cell phone in the alley east of the missing man's backyard."

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

My sister used to live in Claremont which is very close to Linda vista.

Did the guy live alone? This sounds odd. He came home in a hospital gown but now he is missing and his cell phone was found in an alley

Police said Illig may be confused and may not know his name due to medical issues and a lack of medication, which police said he needs as soon as possible. Police said Illig is not violent, but he may be a danger to himself.
Very walkable distance from his home to Sharp Memorial Hospital/facilities.

I wonder if he had walked to ER or even one of the other medical facilities there and left on his own via taxi (or even Uber - curious if the neighbor said if it was a true taxi or not)?

He could have walked across on Genesee and gone north on the Birdland side OR gone north on the LV side and then across on the Mesa College overpass.

Obviously a short drive if he got a ride both directions, but since it's only the return that mentioned a vehicle, I wonder if he had perhaps actually gone on foot both directions but then was picked up at the end by a taxi driver who might have been concerned seeing him in a gown.

Seems like it'd be easy to do a check of the taxi services in the area - as there aren't that many that I've ever seen at/around Sharp Memorial - to see if anyone had record of a fare tied to his home address or even just his street.

Hopefully someone has checked Sharp, as well as Scripps Mercy, UCSD, even Kaiser and the VA, to see if anyone had record of him being at one of the main facilities, since it'd be easier to wander from a busy ER than a doctor at one of those facilities.

While I'm sure any of the systems are possible, I'd look most closely at Sharp or something over in that area where there are so many medical/mental health related facilities.

I know people who use the Kearny High facility on the weekends. I'll forward the article to them since I'd think it'd be worth them trying to get the word out in case anyone remembers seeing him last weekend.

Strange it's taken so long to hit our local media.

Wish they'd release what he had said on the phone to his family member about his plans and/or where he was since the timeline of when he was last seen, plus the phone call and then taxi, prior to his phone later being found leaves a lot of room and/or possibilities for confusion.

I've found a number of family in the area - and a strong history of his family in the LV (and immediately surrounding) area.

One even works at Sharp - which adds to my thought if he was going to a medical facility it was probably something over there.

So the good thing, IMO, is even if he's incredibly confused, he appears to have strong enough roots here that in even some brief lucidity, it's somewhere he seems to have been for many years, so that would work in his favor, IMO.

Cork's FB page has been changed to Remembering Cork.
According to posts around December 1, he was found deceased.

    Looking for MSM/LE confirmation.
