MO - Parents chose to medicate themselves, but not their children.
A 4-year-old boy, whose skin had turned a "modeling clay gray color," laid feverish on a couch stained with his own waste. His stepfather, hours earlier, sought medical attention for an infected finger.
Court papers filed in Perry County tell a chilling and gruesome story of how investigators think Ethan Patrick Williams died and how his caretakers neglected him until he was too sick to recover.
I don't even know what to say.Amy

Unnnhhhh! How horrible! I can't even come up with anything horrible enough to describe it! I hope they fry!Just when I think that I have seen the most depraved things a human can do to another human, somebody posts a new story...........
Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

Mom, stepdad plead guilty in Perry County boy's 2005 death
Tuesday, December 2, 2008 | 12:17 p.m. CST
BY The Associated Press
ROLLA ó The mother and stepfather of a 4-year-old southeast Missouri boy who died of an infection pleaded guilty to three felonies.
Emily Altom and Michael Altom on Monday entered guilty pleas to three counts of felony child endangerment in Phelps County District Court.
Voluntary manslaughter charges alleging the couple was medically negligent in the death of Ethan Patrick Williams will be dropped at sentencing on March 16.
Ethan was hospitalized for 25 days with a virulent bacteria that invaded his leg bone, blood and lungs. He died on Aug. 25, 2005.
Authorities cited filth at the couple's rural Perry County mobile home as the reason for filing charges.
The felonies each carry a maximum sentence of seven years in prison. Judge Tracy Storie warned the Altoms he is not bound by prosecuting attorney Thomas Hoeh's recommendation for probation.
BBM. Baloney, just flat out baloney. The prosecutor is supposed to be on the other side, why did he recommend probation? Why did these parents suffer NO consequences for letting little Ethan die? Why? Why? Why?

Judge gives Perry County couple suspended sentence in child endangerment case
Tuesday, June 2, 2009
By Rudi Keller ~ Southeast Missourian
ROLLA, Mo. -- A Perry County couple found living in filth with their family after a son was hospitalized for a severe staph infection will be on probation for the next five years.
Michael and Emily Altom received a suspended imposition of sentence on three felony counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The charges, along with a charge of manslaughter that was later dropped, were filed after the death of Ethan Patrick Williams in August 2005.
Circuit Judge Tracy L. Storie, accepting the recommendation of defense attorneys Allen Moss and Wayne Keller, told the Altoms they are now responsible for making sure they do not appear in court again. Perry County Prosecuting Attorney Thomas Hoeh did not seek a tougher sentence.
The charges carried a potential of 21 years in prison for each defendant and if probation is revoked they face the full possible sentence. If they successfully complete probation, there will be no criminal record for either Michael or Emily Altom.
"They are going to keep doing what they have been doing," Moss said. "They are going to put their lives back together, work at their jobs and try to create a safe and loving environment for their children."

So, not only did they not do jail time, they got the other kids back. Gee, isn't that just great?

I hope to hell SOMEONE is keeping a close eye on this household and the welfare of the children that were returned to them. I cannot believe they got probation and the return of the other children to that family .
Some days I really just don't get it.

What I want to know is what the difference is between these losers and Casey Anthony? Both of the kids were murdered and these two jokers get probation and CA, who by the way deserves it, is going to prison.
I heard CA's attorneys are looking to change venue... maybe they should try Missouri....I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
