    GA - Jaheem McGhee, 14, Lilburn, 19 Nov 2015

Searched to see if a thread had been started for this young man. Supposedly went missing when he and some friends tried to cross the Yellow River, but, the friends say that Jaheem floated away. They didn't say anything about his being missing until a day later.

Jaheem was last seen holding onto a branch.

“They were telling him, 'Let go of your bags, let go of your bags.' They say he wasn't listening and they were standing there screaming his name, and they got on land and were screaming his name for a while, then they left,” Knight said.

“At this time,” the spokeswoman went on, “investigators are evaluating what their next step in the search efforts will be.”

McGhee's brother, Brian Knight, said the story doesn't add up.

"I don't believe they crossed the river," Knight said.

McGhee disappeared near Bending Trail and Riverside Drive.

"Really worried [because] he's out there," Knight said.

Knight also said McGhee's friends said they were cutting class and that McGhee jumped in the water to avoid police.

When asked if he trusted their story, Knight said, "No." Knight is skeptical, especially with water temperatures in the 40s.

"That water was really cold," Knight said. "I don't believe they crossed a river to get away from a police officer that's not even going to chase 'em," Knight said.

A relative of someone I know fell into this river in about the same area in 2002. His accident was immediately reported, but he still wasn't found for another two weeks.

Even though the river search has already been called off for Jaheem, I hope they find him sooner than that.

I'm beginning to wonder if Jaheem was ever at the river, honestly.

Finally an update, but still no sign of Jaheem. At the link, it says the friends spent the night in a storage shed outside a Home Depot after the incident.

JMO, but that may be why there was such a delay in reporting him missing, as maybe the parents assumed the friends were all together somewhere. BUT, why on earth would these kids not have asked for help immediately? And also, JMO, but this isn't the first time I've heard of someone spending the night in those storage sheds. Shouldn't they keep them locked overnight?

Honestly, I think the friends caused Jaheem to get hurt/fall into the river somehow (either by accident or on purpose) and were then terrified of anyone finding out. My mom tells the story of when she was younger playing with her brother while climbing trees, and she pushed him off and broke his arm - her response was to hide him inside the house and wait until their parents came home, and then pretending that she hadn't been outside with him and didn't know what had happened

ETA: Just reread the above article in more detail. That possibility also makes sense; he may have run away and the others are lying to cover for him. In that case, monitoring their phones and SM communications will be important in figuring out where he went.

Sadly, Jaheem's body has been found in the river by a kayaker.
