Circumstances of Disappearance

According to the Charley Project, there were only two teenagers charged with murder. Their names were Luis Gagliasso and Manuel Sanchez Jr. The article below from 2005 goes into a little more detail about the possible motive (his case is toward the bottom). Apparently, Jose discovered that the relationship between the Luis and Manuel was more than just friends. Both were around Jose's age.

I guess that means that he was killed to keep him from outing the two suspects, but I'm wondering how that actually went about. Did Jose already know that the two were gay and they lured him to wherever he was walking to to that afternoon to kill him? Or did he accidentally find out (i.e., found the two in a compromising position) the day he vanished and they quickly decided to kill him? I'm guessing that the former was what happened since they specifically say they were charged with murder, which implies premeditation. Luis and Manuel sound like they were "frenemies" who deliberately tricked Jose into hanging out with them that day.

The scary part is that this probably took place in broad daylight. Was he lured to a secluded area where there were no witnesses? Or perhaps there were witnesses, but that info was never made public.

How did the police know these kids did it? If they are still alive, there is a chance at a confession, maybe?

The way I understand it, it was these two boys that Jose was heading out to meet the day he went missing. So they would've been the last two people to have seen him alive.

2 weeks after Jose went missing, a John Doe was found in the same time. He does bear a resemblance to Jose, but he is listed as Filipino. Which seems weirdly specific unless they had more info. I wonder if it is related to Jose, and if so, what else are they not telling us...?

Per the article "He was a member of the school wrestling team and jazz band who had no known enemies, but on Aug. 2, 1981, 16-year-old Jose Dominguez walked away from his Stockton home and was never seen again. Two of his friends were accused of the killing in 1989, allegedly after Dominguez found out the two boys had been lovers. But charges were dropped after investigators concluded they didn’t have enough evidence to convict them. One of the suspects has said Dominguez is buried in Ripon, but his body has never been found."
I don't get it. First of all the two suspects Luis Pete Gagliasso and Manuel Sanchez Jr. were teenagers. Teenagers aren't known to be methodical killers yet the police didn't have enough evidence. Nor could they get a confession out of these two teenagers? Yet the article says one of the suspects has said Dominguez is buried in Ripon. That's confusing and wish there was more details about that. Did he says that to investigators? Why did he just say it instead of leading police to the site? If in fact these two suspects were lovers chances are since 1981 they are probably no longer lovers. Police should interview both of these suspects again.

JOSE ESUARO "CHE" DOMINGUEZ — FBI

Reward:
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the location of Jose Esuaro “Che” Dominguez.

Details:
On August 2, 1981, Jose Esuaro “Che” Dominguez left his Stockton, California, home, walking to meet with friends at Stribley Park, located nearby. At the time, he was wearing gray corduroy pants, gray tennis shoes, and a black t-shirt with the name “Che” printed below a cancer zodiac sign. The Franklin High School jazz band trumpet player and wrestler never returned home.

Dominguez was initially believed to be a runaway since family and tipsters reported that he had been seen; however, Dominguez did not reappear or contact family during holidays or his birthday, which was unusual for the teen. In 1989, an individual was charged for an alleged role in Che’s disappearance, but charges were dropped when a key witness recanted his story.

Stockton teen Jose ‘Che’ Dominguez vanished in 1981. DNA testing on newly found remains is underway
''STOCKTON, Calif. —

San Joaquin County's sheriff said Thursday that DNA testing is being conducted on newly discovered remains to determine if they are a match for Jose “Che” Dominguez, a Stockton teenager who disappeared 40 years ago.

Sheriff Patrick Withrow told reporters that the partial skeletal remains were found last week in the eastern part of the county as part of an active investigation into the cold case over the past year.

Dominguez left his home on Aug. 2, 1981, at age 16 and was never seen again. It’s believed he was walking to play ball with friends at nearby Stribley Park. He was a trumpet player and wrestler who attended Franklin High School at the time he vanished.

Withrow said DNA testing could take several weeks to determine if the remains belong to Dominguez.

The sheriff's office's cold-case unit has been working on more than 100 cases and Dominguez's case has been a priority along with others that seem to have the "most solvability," Withrow said.''

Details of Disappearance
Jose was last seen leaving his family's residence in Stockton, California on August 2, 1981 at approximately 4:00 p.m. He told his parents that he was walking down the street from their home to meet two friends, and would return in about two hours.

He never arrived as scheduled and has not been heard from again. He was initially classified as a runaway and there were reported sightings of him, but he didn't contact his family during the holidays or on his birthday, which is uncharacteristic of his behavior, and is no longer believed to have left of his own accord.

Two suspects, Luis Pete Gagliasso and Manuel Sanchez Jr., were charged with Jose's murder in 1989. They were the two friends Jose planned to meet on the day of his disappearance, and were both in their teens at the time. The men were never brought to trial, however; the case was dropped for lack of evidence.

At the time of his disappearance, Jose was a student at Franklin High School in Stockton. He wrestled, played the cornet and wanted the join the school's jazz band. He has never been located, but foul play is suspected in his case due to the circumstances involved.

I am guessing this turned out not to be him? :(
