Brenner Wolfe, 19, was last seen in the afternoon on 11-26-15 in the area of E. Reno and Douglas Blvd. Wearing an olive green hat, dark jacket/shirt, and jeans. Brenner did not have any extra clothing that would prepare him for the current weather. He had no cell phone, no money, and he didn't have his thyroid medication, something they say he's been struggling with.

The Wolfe's say they're in town from Arkansas, staying with relatives in Midwest City for the holidays, but they say Thanksgiving morning they woke up, and Brenner was gone.

He left without enough clothes to stay warm and could be delusional without his medication.
Brenner loved the outdoors, but he did not have the proper equipment to handle the recent ice storm when he was last seen on Nov. 26, Fry added.

About 40 people are working to find him, some in town from Arkansas and Texas. A search headquarters is set up at a church in Midwest City.
He left his ID and cell phone at home.

Depending on whether he has hyper- or hypothyroid issues..

From http://endocrine-system.emedtv.com/hypothyroidism/hypothyroidism-symptoms-and-signs.html :
Hypothyroidism signs and symptoms can include:

  • Feeling tired (fatigue) and sluggishness
  • Slow movement and speech
  • Constipation
  • Increased sensitivity to cold
  • Puffy face
  • Swelling around the eyes
  • Loss of eyebrows
  • Joint and muscle pain, aches, and stiffness
  • A horse voice
  • An enlarged tongue
  • Decreased sweating
  • Depression
  • Slowed heart rate
  • Swollen ankles
  • Decreased hearing
  • Mild high blood pressure
  • Difficulty catching your breath (severe shortness of breath) when exercising
  • Decreased ability to exercise.

And from http://endocrine-system.emedtv.com/hyperthyroidism/hyperthyroidism-symptoms-and-signs.html

One or more of the following signs or symptoms may be present in a person with hyperthyroidism:

  • Anxiety
  • Mood swings
  • Nervousness or irritability
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle weakness (in particular, the upper arms and thighs, making it difficult to lift heavy items or climb stairs)
  • Hand tremors
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Heart palpitations
  • Irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • An intolerance for hot weather
  • Increased sweating
  • Swelling around the eyes or within the whites of the eyes (only seen in people with Graves' disease)
  • A goiter, which is an enlarged thyroid that may cause the neck to look swollen.

  • Trouble sleeping
  • Frequent bowel movements
  • An overactive bladder
  • Shortness of breath
  • Decreased ability to exercise.

None of this looks good at all. Many of those symptoms could be really dangerous in someone lost in the wilderness.

I was treated for depression for over 10 years and various meds didn't really help. About 2 years ago I started with a new doctor and one of the first things she did was bloodwork to check thyroid. Turns out I'm hypothyroid and she started me on thyroid medication. Fast forward two years and I am off antidepressants and have never felt better! However, if I miss taking my meds in the morning, by about 3 in the afternoon I start feeling "off".

Thank you for the experience sharing, ClaireNC! It's good to hear from someone who can identify possible things that could be going on with BW, and it's also always good to hear someone being brave and telling their story.

I'm going to be driving around that area in about an hour and a half. Does anyone have the name of the church the family is using as command for the search?

Who am I? I am that tiny voice in the back of your mind which encourages you to be who you choose to be as long as you are truthful to yourself. I am that tiny voice in the back of your mind that encourages you to reach higher. I am that tiny voice in the back of your mind that makes you understand that you are a survivor...that you are important...that you matter.

Hypothyroidism can cause psychosis. Maybe that's why they said he might become delusional without his meds :(

Oh no, so very sad. RIP Brenner. Sending my thoughts and prayers for all those that loved him.

I just found out that Brenners father Greg has passed away on March 20th after being hit by a car. So sad. Please keep Shannon (brenners mother and Greg's wife), brenners siblings, and all others who loved him dearly in your thoughts.

That is an awful lot for one family to get through in such a short amount of time. RIP to Brenner and his Dad.
