RCMP put out an alert after Michael Sean Stanley, from Edmonton, cut off his electronic monitoring device. LE has characterized him as extremely dangerous.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/sex-offender-michael-stanley-has-horrendous-record-1.1913169

Police said the Edmonton man has a history of taking children from playgrounds. In 2006, he was sentenced to assault and unlawful confinement after luring two mentally impaired boys to an Edmonton apartment. One boy was 13, and one was nine.

Court heard he smoked crack and blew smoke in their faces.

He spent nine years in prison for the aggravated sexual assault, in the late 1980s, of an 82-year-old Lethbridge woman who was confined to a wheelchair.

He should never have been released in the first place.

"They were the 47th and 48th criminal convictions for a man who has been classified as possessing a severe anti-social personality, clear psychopathic tendencies and high risk to re-offend," noted a story in the Edmonton Journal at the time.

His previous convictions are related to drug use, break and enters, assaults, and the rape of an 80-yearold woman in a wheelchair in Lethbridge in 1988.

In April 2011, Edmonton police warned the public about Stanley's release from prison because he is considered "an untreated violent and sexual offender who posses a risk of significant harm to the community," according to the community alert.

The Edmonton police Behavioral Assessment Unit continued to monitor Stanley under a peace bond, which had 20 conditions for him to follow.

Am I missing something here?? If this guy has severe anti-social personality with psychopathic tendencies, clearly he is not going to care about the 20 conditions on his peace bond. I know that the courts are sometimes hamstrung by the laws, but maximum sentences MUST apply for people like this. He is clearly untreatable.

:banghead:

Let's catch this guy and label him a dangerous offender....never to have freedom again.

48 criminal convictions, some of which are violent; preying on the mentally impaired and elderly

he clearly does not belong in society :banghead:

I would rather pay for his long-term imprisonment than an ankle bracelet he can easily cut off

I have faith they will catch him but I hope he doesn't hurt anyone before they do

Sorry but I don't know how to copy a URL on my tablet.
Just wanted to let everyone know that this "wonderful" excuse of a human being is now in Washington State.
Check out ctv news. Apparently he crossed the border in Blaine WASHINGTON. How did he get across?

Hayduk said local law enforcement agencies in the U.S. have been notified of Stanley’s whereabouts. However, the warrants he is wanted on in Canada “are not extendable into the U.S.”

When asked if his hands are tied now that Stanley has fled to the U.S., Hayduk replied: “Specifically we have no authority to go and get him, to my knowledge

Someone needs to buy this pervert a bottle of whatever and escort his drunken butt back across the border for a surprise reunion with the Canadian Mounties. Where is Dog when we need him? (Or someone angrier than Dog. )

"Hayduk said American authorities were aware of Stanley’s situation when he was allowed into the country. He crossed from British Columbia into Washington at the Blaine border crossing. Asked why American authorities let the wanted sex offender into the country, Hayduk said he didn’t know.

“That’s a question that they’re going to have to answer,” he said."

Typical of our government. Safety of our citizens doesn't mean diddly.

:banghead:

This is crazy! So he's just going to be allowed to live in Washington? Or wherever else in the US he chooses?

This makes absolutely no sense!

jmo

Don't we have enough sex offender right here in US? What do we need Canadian sex offenders for?
:banghead:

Why should we accept this guy with a criminal history? Canada doesn't accept ours.
Oh, maybe because we have no government right now? Sheesh.

I really do wonder if this is related to the US government shut down. Are there cutbacks at the border??

I find this shocking that he was allowed across the border.

Send him back and we will deal with him!

wow this is bad.

i hope he is found before he has the chance to hurt someone.

kinda unbelievable with that many convictions and he was released. the 3 strike rule was invented for people like this guy

As an American citizen, he has every right to enter the country.

There are a lot of comments about this man belonging in Canada. This isn't true. He is an American citizen and has every right to be in the US. I suppose it will just be a matter of time before he commits crimes at home.

Just before he cut off his ankle bracelet, he was hanging around a playground watching young children. In order to avoid the arrest, he removed the ankle bracelet and headed for the border. He is an alcoholic with no empathy. He attacks when he has been drinking. He is a very dangerous American citizen.

I didn't realize that he is an American citizen, Otto. Where did you see this?

(Not that this really matters. This guy should have been dealt with here in Canada due to his crimes here.)

High-risk sex offender allowed to ender US after check determined citizenship, warrant status

– A high-risk sex offender being sought in Canada was allowed to enter the United States after authorities determined that he was a U.S. citizen and not subject to an extraditable warrant

I wonder how long it took the border guards to determine that he was not subject to an extraditable warrant. Why didn't they just hold him there until they got a legal opinion? That could take months ... years. Really, what guard in his or her right mind makes that kind of decision??!

"A federal official told the Associated Press on Friday that U.S. authorities were aware of a warning from Canada that Stanley might try to cross the border. But the official said Stanley was allowed through after his records were checked.

...
He may have had a U.S. passport, because he is an American citizen, William said."

http://globalnews.ca/news/897960/u-s-doesnt-know-where-canadian-fugitive-is/

"Jack Williams, acting deputy chief of the U.S. Marshal Service in Seattle, confirmed his office is the lead U.S. police agency on the case. But there’s really not much his service can do without the warrant.

Williams said while his officers have been in touch with Edmonton police, they’re not watching Stanley. They don’t even know where he is.

Despite Stanley’s extensive criminal record, he’s wanted for some “pretty low level” charges, said Williams. American police agencies haven’t even issued a public warning that he’s in the U.S.

“Practically speaking, in Washington state, there are lots of people who have significant criminal histories, violent histories, that have served their time and are members or society and we don’t keep track of them.

...
“Right now he’s somebody else’s problem. [The Americans] know about him, they know his history, he’s one of their citizens. So it’s their problem.”
