GUILTY WI - Michael Funk, 60, hostage, killed in Neenah cycle shop standoff, 5 Dec 2015

Neenah Police: Evacuations underway

Neenah Police are evacuating a number of homes and businesses in the area. Earlier, residents who live within a 1/4 mile radius from Main and Doty Streets were told to shelter in place away from windows, in a basement if possible. The request comes in response to a shooting and active hostage situation at Eagle Nation Cycles Saturday morning.

Police say a man walked into the store and fired a weapon

Officer moving ppl from parking lot, expanding perimeter. Says there's a new threat. Turning gas lines off.

BREAKING: Shots fired 2 injured (1victim & 1 cop) Neenah WI. Shooter is in custody. Believe all victims/ hostages acct'd for.

That's one way to end a 50 million dollar lawsuit...

Well if it is true that he ran out of the shop with a gun in hand and refused to drop it, then the police did what needed to be done.

Hopefully the guy refused police commands. The videos should hold the evidence. Maybe this guy had a CC license. Somewhat fishy right now.

Is that on the Reservation there? If I remember right that's about where the Oneida Reservation's at.

No it happened in quaint downtown Neenah. The Oneida reservation is at least 30 miles north of there

Attorney: Man killed in Wisconsin standoff was a hostage. Milwaukee lawyer Cole J. White on Sunday identified the dead man as 60-year-old Michael Funk of Neenah. White said he got the identification from the Wisconsin Department of Justice and from Funk's wife.
Police said the dead man did not create the initial disturbance.

LE also says the fatal shot might of come from inside the shop. So I guess no one know anything, I expect that's about par for the course.

If you look into the hostage situation and shooting that just happened in Neenah there are a lot of similarities to the Steven Avery case also here in Wisconsin!!!!! History with law enforcement, huge lawsuit, same names keeping coming up. Neenah police department was told to stand back and only assist if needed. Lots of **** doesn't add up!

Funk was shot by police as he fled Eagle Nation Cycles, where he and two other men were held hostage by gunman Brian T. Flatoff in a dispute over a motorcycle, according to court records. Police said Funk had a gun in his hands and was shot after he didn’t obey commands to drop the weapon...

Flatoff, 46, of Stevens Point, faces 11 criminal charges, including felony murder and attempted first-degree intentional homicide, in connection with the standoff and shooting that led to Funk's death. He also faces five felony charges in the case for a disturbance that preceded the standoff. Flatoff’s case is scheduled for further proceedings at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 25 before Winnebago County Circuit Court Judge John Jorgensen.

Flatoff's attorney seeks more evidence - October 17th

Winnebago County Judge John Jorgensen on Monday ordered the attorneys involved in the criminal case against accused hostage-taker Brian T. Flatoff to get together within two weeks to ensure all evidence has been turned over to the defense.

Flatoff's attorney, David Keck, filed a court motion demanding the district attorney's office provide the "complete, unedited and uncut" videos from body cameras worn by Neenah police officers Craig Hoffer, Ty Thompson, Shaun O'Bre and Jonathan Kuffel. They are the officers, along with Robert Ross, who stormed Eagle Nation Cycles in an attempt to rescue Funk and two other hostages. Minutes later Hoffer and Ross fatally shot Funk after he escaped from the building.

Winnebago County Deputy District Attorney Scott Ceman responded that all evidence, including body camera videos from O'Bre and Ross, has been turned over to Keck — twice — on one-terabyte hard drives.

"There is no body camera video, to my knowledge, of Jonathan Kuffel or Craig Hoffer," Ceman told the court. "As much as he wants me (to provide it), we don't have it. It doesn't exist."

Flatoff's case is scheduled for a two-week jury trial starting March 13.
