The boyfriend, Julio Jesus Cruz, 50, a longhaul truck driver, had been out of the picture since 2010... Cruz resurfaced in early November, Laura Bromet said, and her sister, without a phone, hit the road with him, bound for Bakersfield, Calif.

Five days later when Nancy Bromet used Cruz's phone to call her father, she did not say where she was. "That was not part of the conversation," Laura Bromet said. "She just wanted to come home."

Jerry Bromet told his daughter to have Cruz take her to an airport and he would buy her a ticket home... Bromet said he heard his daughter ask Cruz: "Well, what do you think?"

"And that's the last words I heard, and the phone hung up," Jerry Bromet said Thursday in a telephone interview.

Nancy Bromet left her father's home in Sunrise, Florida on November 12, 2015, to head to Bakersfield, California with her boyfriend, a long-haul truck driver. Several days later, the 37-year-old called her sister Laura saying she was in distress and wanted to come home. Nancy was reported missing by her boyfriend, who reportedly told police he dropped her off at a shopping mall outside El Centro, California, while he was finishing deliveries. Nancy was not there when he returned, according to police. Few clues have been discovered in the case, and the investigation is still "open and active," authorities said.

What a sad case.
Did LE check camera footage to see if she entered the mall? (If it was available.)
Did LE forensically process his truck? (I assume not and think that's unfortunate.) IMO.
Her poor family. :(

Nancy Bromet left her father’s home in Sunrise, Florida on November 12, 2015, to head to Bakersfield, California with her boyfriend, a long-haul truck driver. On November 17, the 37-year-old called her sister Laura saying she was in distress and wanted to come home. Laura told Dateline that after a few days of not hearing from her sister, she began to call Nancy’s boyfriend. On November 22, the boyfriend reported Nancy missing. According to police, he said that he had dropped Nancy off at a shopping mall outside El Centro, California while he was finishing deliveries and Nancy was not there when he returned. Shortly after Nancy disappeared, Dateline spoke with Detective Luis Hernandez of the El Centro Police Department. “We’ve talked to businesses in that area [of the shopping mall] where she was supposedly dropped off,” he said. “We passed out fliers, and put her on our El Centro Police Department Facebook page. But she hasn’t been seen since.” He noted that at that time there was no indication of foul play. The El Centro Police Department confirmed in November 2022 that the investigation is still open and active. Nancy is 5’2”, weighs 165 lbs., and has brown hair and eyes. She would be 44 years old today. Anyone with information regarding Nancy’s disappearance is asked to call the El Centro Police Department at (760) 337-4861.

Details of Disappearance

Bromet left her father's home in Sunrise, Florida on November 12, 2015. She was going to Bakersfield, California with her boyfriend, Julio Jesus Cruz, a long-haul truck driver. They were riding in an orange 18-wheeler truck with the Florida license plate number F3171P.

Bromet didn't take a cellular phone with her for her trip, and all communications with her family were through Cruz's phone. The last time her family heard from her was on November 17, when she called her father. She was "distressed" at the time of the conversation and said she wanted to go home.

Her father told Cruz to take her to an airport, and offered to buy her a plane ticket home. Bromet's father heard her ask Cruz, "Well, what do you think?" Then the line went dead. When Bromet's father called back, Cruz answered the phone and told him Bromet was asleep. She never contacted her family again.

Cruz stated they arrived in California on November 19. He said that on November 20, he dropped Bromet off at a shopping center in El Centro with $40 so she could go shopping while he completed deliveries. When he went to pick her up two hours later, she was gone. Her family reported her missing on November 22.

Bromet's family stated that although she struggled with addiction, she never went longer than a couple of days without contacting them. She hasn't accessed her bank account since her disappearance; she had disability payments automatically deposited there every month.

Although Cruz says he last saw her in El Centro, her family isn't sure she ever made it as far as California. California authorities are investigating her disappearance, which remains unsolved.
