It's a long story that starts in a few different places.
It starts October 2, 2013 with Kinsley, born a beautiful little girl to a loving father by the name of Scott Senft.
It starts March 2013 with Wyatt, born with a congenital heart defect.
It starts January 23, 2014 with Xander, born with Beckwith-Weidemann Syndrome and an aggressive liver cancer.
It starts November 19, 2014 with Charlie, born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
The stories diverge for a year or so - Kinsley's parents split up and she spends her time between the home of her dad and the home of her mom (and her mom's new boyfriend). Wyatt's heart defect is corrected but he is diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension and his lungs begin to fail. Xander's liver is partly removed, but that does nothing, and an attempted liver transplant fails. Charlie is hospitalized and procedures are begun to fix his heart, but doctors realize that the valves of his heart are simply too small to work with.
Then, on December 2, 2015, a 911 call is made, an officer arrives at the home of Kinsley's mother and her boyfriend, and the toddler is rushed to the hospital, not breathing. An investigation would later result in felony murder and assault charges against the boyfriend and felony child abuse against the mother. The boyfriend had beaten Kinsley senseless while the mother stood by, and no medical attention was sought until the next morning. By the time she arrived at Cincinnati Childrens, Kinsley was brain-dead.
Scott Senft, Kinsley's father, posted photos of his daughter on social media as he struggled to come to grips with what had happened, and documented the final heartbreaking decision to take her off of life support. She died on December 3, 2015, surrounded by family. What happened next was incredible.
Scott made the choice to let little Kinsley become an organ donor. Immediately, calls were sent out to the families of three boys on the transplant waiting list. Charlie, Wyatt, and Xander were rushed into surgery. Kinsley's liver went to Xander, and her lungs went to Wyatt. It was discovered that her heart had been too badly damaged from the beatings to be functional, but an anonymous donor was found and Charlie was given a heart that day.
Since then, Scott has received thousands of dollars in donations from the public, an amount vastly exceeding what he'd asked for to cover funeral expenses. So he decided to do what he thought best - he's bought hundreds of toys and donated them to charities such as Toys for Tots, and gone through his hometown buying toys for children in random acts of kindness.
All three boys are recovering from their surgeries, and are steadily improving.
