He reportedly left the bar "with a dark-haired Caucasian male and a Caucasian female with long dark hair". He did not have a car. Missing since September 4th but not reported until September 10, 1987.

This source says he left that bar with 2 people. He wasn't reported missing until several days later.

Both these sources have detailed lists of tattoos. I realize tattoos are not a physical factor in this case because they are soft tissue (unless there were nick marks on the bones where tattoos have been filet-ed off, I suppose). There were also many scars listed (including back and abdomen). They knew what clothes he was wearing. Whoever provided all this information evidently knew him quite well.

There's also the detail that he disappeared from a bar at 11 in the morning. Since he has a mug shot photo (size chart in background), I would venture to bet he had a DUI on his record. This is also suggested by the fact that he is 31 but did not own a vehicle. But that would also mean he has an LE file?

In the mug shot, he is significantly taller than 72".

Looks like the bar was a blue collar bar with a pool table in an old building. I'll bet it was full of "regulars". http://ashvegas.com/whats-up-with-cowboys-nightlife-building-in-west-asheville He left at 11am on a Friday morning. Worked nights, or not at all, or day off. They have a good description of what he was wearing blue jeans, blue t shirt.

There are numerous Michael Ernest Black entries referring to this MP and (evidently) other individuals, e.g. in WA State. I would speculate the combination "Michael Ernest" runs in this family.

Cowboys bar actually opened in 1987. Some years later, I believe it moved, but it was a new and small establishment in 1987.

My instincts were right:

Google is sprouting Michael E Black, Caucasian, with arrest records and red hair...

I would venture to bet a relevant DNA sample could be got from a relative, if needed. There might already be one on file attached to a cousin's LE record?
