Daughenbaugh was last seen packing his belongings into his vehicle in North Carolina on January 5, 1987. He was heading to Houston, Texas, where he planned to contact a friend and possibly find a job driving tractor-trailers. Daughenbaugh never arrived in Texas. His 1973 gold-painted Chevrolet truck was found abandoned at the Dixie Truck Stop off of Interstate 77 in Charlotte, North Carolina in March 1987. None of Daughenbaugh's belongings were discovered in the vehicle and there was no trace of Daughenbaugh himself. The keys were still in the ignition at the time of discovery.
Daughenbaugh has a history of criminal behavior, but there has been no activity under his name since his disappearance. Foul play is suspected in this case.

Daughenbaugh

Lowell Daughenbaugh, a white male who was 39 at the time, was reported missing on March 3, 1987, by Vern Daughenbaugh. The sheriff said Vern Daughenbaugh explained that Lowell was last seen in the Lowgap area two months earlier on Jan. 5 driving a 1973 Chevy pickup truck. Lowell reportedly was driving to Houston, Texas, to visit a friend by the name of Stanley Andrews.

“Daughenbaugh never made it to Texas, and his vehicle was located unoccupied at the Dixie Truck Stop in Charlotte,” Hiatt said.

“Investigators received new leads in June 2011,” he said. This took the case to Michigan, but then all leads were exhausted.

“The sheriff’s office has received numerous NCIC leads from different states attempting to match Lowell Daughenbaugh’s description to ongoing investigations in the different jurisdictions. As of today, all NCIC leads have been exhausted,” he said.

I have the impression that he was intercepted by an enemy from the past or perhaps he was convinced to commit some illegal drug or some important robbery and perhaps it went wrong he could not continue and committed suicide or was killed there are no signs of violence in the car there were only his keys in the ignition it could be that they took it out with violence and in order not to leave suspicions or evidence they took out their belongings too...
either way
rest in peace
