Age at Time of Disappearance: 27 years old
Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'3; 110 pounds
Distinguishing Characteristics: White female. Blonde hair; hazel eyes. She wears contact lenses or eyeglasses.
Clothing: Black swim suit, blue tank top and blue shorts
Scars, Marks: Burn scar on her left hand. Pierced ears
AKA: Peggy Sue Ellsworth
Dentals: Available
DNA: Available

Circumstances of Disappearance
Case was last seen in her hometown of Spanish Fork, Utah on July 9, 1988. Case had left a company party on July 9 with her boyfriend. They went to a private party where witnesses reported some hostilities between the two, and they left that party together. That was the last time she was seen.
Her parents and a fellow employee at the Ensign-Bickford Company's Trojan explosives plant in Mapleton, reported her missing on July 13.
DNA tests on family members were done to help with identification. She may not be in Utah. Foul play is suspected.

If a match for Case comes back, they say they will reproach her former boyfriend, who’s remained a person of interest since 1988. In the meantime, police know he may have a head start.

“There’s always that worry, but he can only run for so long,” police said.

Hmm somehow I don't find the police response to him running to be very comforting.
 
Michael Kufrin became a person of interest after friends saw the couple fighting at a party. Her family came to the home the next day looking for her. "We were met at the door of her apartment by her boyfriend who had a gun on his hip," recalled her father, Richard Ellsworth.

Police say Kufrin was the last one to see Peggy Sue. Kufrin kept insisting that he was still in touch with her but never did offer any evidence that she was around. He was arrested in Nevada driving a vehicle belonging to Peggy Sue that was reported stolen.

"He continued to be very difficult to deal with," said police. "As far as the investigation, he didn't want to talk to police. He didn't want to give any information at all. Zero."

Court records show Kufrin spent time at the Utah state prison for stealing his boss' truck.

At his 1990 parole hearing, he refused to answer questions about Peggy Sue's disappearance.

Kufrin now lives outside of Chicago. His father said he has not spoken to his son in months and doesn't know his whereabouts. Calls to Kufrin himself were not returned.

Kufrin, then 32, lived with Case for five years before she was reported missing in July 1988. Friends last saw Case leaving a hot-tub party in Payson on July 9, 1988, with Kufrin, whom witnesses described as jealous of the way Case had interacted with other men there.

On Wednesday, Spanish Fork police named Kufrin as a "person of interest" in Case's disappearance, and confirmed that law enforcement officers believe Kufrin is living in Illinois. If the Utah County attorney's office files charges, police there will detain Kufrin.

How do you know he lives in California now?? Link please. :findingalink: I tried searching him on FB, but no one by that name.... just the articles of her skull found. Maybe he never had one.

In the days after the party, Kufrin called Case's employer to report that she was ill. He then told her employer that she'd left the state to buy a car and would not be returning to work, Tribune articles say. Suspicious of what Kufrin told them, Case's co-workers reported her missing.

If she left out of state of buy a car, why wouldn't she come back to her house??? :thinking: That sure doesn't "fly" with me!

During a parole hearing, members of the Utah Board of Pardons got nowhere with Michael I. Kufrin on the subject of Peggy Ellsworth Case. Case, 28, was last seen alive in Kufrin's company, authorities say."I don't want to talk about it," Kufrin replied to repeated queries from board members.

Police have identified Kufrin as the prime suspect in the disappearance. Meantime, Kufrin is serving a zero-to-five-year prison term for the unrelated crime of attempted theft.

Several members of Case's family attended Kufrin's parole hearing, but they were not allowed to address the board because the disappearance had nothing to do with Kufrin's prison term.
