A machete-wielding man is in police custody after allegedly attacking another man near the Eaton Centre Wednesday afternoon.

Police say they were called at 4:37 p.m. about the incident, which happened near Bay and Dundas streets.

One person has suffered injuries to the head and leg, said Craig Brister with the Toronto Police.

Paramedics say the injured person is a man in his 30s. He has been taken to a trauma centre for his injuries, which are non-life-threatening.

Cops got the call just after 4:30pm of a man wielding a machete and menacing against another. The victim has been sent to the hospital with a head and leg injury.

Witness reports suggest that the suspect was screaming “*advertiser censored** White People” before the attack occurred.

A witness, Terence Yip, told CBC News that he was heading south on Bay Street when he heard yelling. He said one man was swinging at a man who was holding a guitar. Yip said a woman was yelling for police.

Yip said a bystander tried to break up the fight. The man with the machete had his back to the door at the Atrium on Bay Street. Security guards nearby tackled the man from behind.

What a sorry mess this world has turned into.

A 30-year-old man suffered injuries to his head and leg after being struck twice with a machete, said Sgt. Dale Corra. Police say the alleged attacker also had a hunting knife on him. Police now have both weapons.

Yip said the man being attacked was on his back defending himself with his legs, while the man with the machete was swinging the knife at the man's legs.

"I've never seen anyone openly attack someone like that," said Yip. "It was extremely aggressive to the point where it was obvious that it was an attack."

Yip said a bystander tried to break up the fight, intervening long enough to allow the victim to run inside a nearby building.

Yip also tweeted that the attacker, a black man, yelled “F–k white people” before allegedly attacking the victim, who is white. He said the alleged attacker’s machete was “probably the length of my arm. It was pretty big, a substantial weapon.”

Christmas-time or crisis-time?!

Getting hard to know with each passing hour- it can be numbing......

its like , well what is next , used to be money was the prime motivator (like bank roobers in the ole west, the train robbers etc)

Christmas-time or crisis-time?!

I wonder if this would be making headlines if there hadn't been the other two stabbings. It's not like they're all that uncommon but how often do we hear about them?

Sword fights, however, are always timely.
