A recent addition:
https://identifyus.org/en/cases/14560

"X-ray examination did show the subject had an old, healed fracture of the left “mandudiable” (perhaps mandible)." "Fracture of Madible - "Examination of the X-rays of mandible reveal an apparent old well healed fracture near ramus on left side."

Gary Mullinax from Arkansas seems to be a good potential fit - he broke his jaw when young and went missing on the same day the body was found:
"Jaw had been broken at one time and wired shut for weeks from a car wreck"

Thread for Gary Mullinax:
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...-21-Benton-9-May-1976&p=12263642#post12263642

A 500 mile drive is a bit of a stretch - the body was found at 16:30 on May 9th supposedly, so it would be difficult to leave Benton in Arkansas after a Mother's Day gathering and get to Shepherdsville KY in time for burning the body. The profile even says the remains were found 1 day after death and were "partly decomposed", and Mother's Day was definitely on May 9th in '76 after I searched. It's possible that Gary Mullinax went missing a day or two before Mother's day of course, people can misremember/mistranscribe. His original report was lost in the late 1970s apparently. The body may have been found later than recorded as well.

The UID has fingerprints and dental available, Mullinax has DNA and fingerprints available. So a ruleout could be done on fingerprints, although the UID's fingerprints were hard to get apparently (the hands were rather burned), so it might not be conclusive.

That the remains were found "1 day" postmortem is unlikely to be very exact - the remains were burned, they wouldn't have been able to tell with any exactitude.

Add that to the significant facial resemblance, and I'd say it's worth submitting (the last seen/found times might be wrong).

There was another victim in Kentucky who was seemingly tortured with his hands removed maybe in the 80's?

Looking through the chronological Doenetwork page maybe it was this one:
http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/296umky.html

I think that LE investigators severed the hands of the UID found in 1976 because of fingerprint issues:

"The hands were so badly burned that processing by our lab was impossible at that time. The hands were severed from the body and forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Identification Unit for special processing."
https://identifyus.org/en/cases/14560

No, the one I was talking about was in 1990 but this guy you found was 89 so maybe those two were connected. It's just odd though, there have been 3 strange murders of men in Kentucky which isn't the most populous state. 76 is long before 89 and 90 though.

I misspoke earlier, in fact I used the Geographical Index not the Chronological One:
http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/uid-geo-index.html#KY

Can't find any male UID from 1990 in KY in DoeNetwork. identifyUs has one:

Date found January 07, 1990
"Body conditions Not recognizable - Traumatic injuries"
One or both hands not recovered
https://identifyus.org/en/cases/87

This is the one I was talking about, he does have a doe network though, I have see it.

It may have been deleted from DoeNetwork - this thread talks about a false ID for the January 7th 1990 one, the Doe page was taken down and seemingly not put up:
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...-WhtMale-(UP87)-Falsely-ID-d-UID-Again-Jan-90

Someone linked to a webarchive of the profile:
https://web.archive.org/web/20041213070231/http://www.doenetwork.us/cases/133umky.html

From Doe:
"As for the motive, police think it was possibly a Satanic sacrifice and there was also evidence to suggest homosexual activity before the victim's death"

This is similar to language used on the FBI info for the '76 Doe (i.e. the subject of the thread we're on now):

"Evidence recovered from the victim’s body suggests that he was involved in homosexual activity prior to his death."
https://leb.fbi.gov/2013/march/vicap-alert

I have no idea how LE could determine "homosexual activity". I guess they discovered male sexual excretions inside the man but that isn't specified. The "satanic ritual" idea for the Jan 90 Doe looks questionable and to me is over-speculation (the "satanic ritual" stuff is an unfounded conspiracy theory more than anything I think). These cases are getting mixed up in my head a lot but it's been interesting to run through them.

He's still on DoeNet... They're Doenetwork.ORG now (not Doenetwork.us)

1568UMKY - Unidentified Male
Shepherdsville, KY
5/9/1976
... young white male was found, badly burned and partly decomposed. There were signs of sexual assault.

For some reason, DoeNet mentions "sexual assault" rather than mere "homosexual activity." That makes me think about a gay serial killer.
The closest ones that I can think of off hand would be Larry Eyler and Herbert Baumeister. They're actually both from Indiana, just north of KY. But one of Eyler's suspected victims was killed in Lexington (KY) around '82. I don't know if Baumeister traveled to KY much.

Donald Harvey is from Kentucky, and was an active murderer at the time, but he was an "Angel of Death" (nurse that killed already sick patients just because they could get away with it) who just happened to be gay. He wasn't a sex sicko that raped with his murders like Eyler or Baumeister.

Larry Eyler did prey upon hitchhikers, which may be how this fellow wound up in KY. They think he could have been from Canada, pretty far from KY, so him being a hitchhiker makes sense. It's just that Eyler's "official" tally of victims started at least five years after this guy was killed.

Sorry, Biscuits... I was thinking of this guy instead of the guy from near Owensboro. I actually posted the "weird" stuff on his thread because I remembered it to be more crazy than I'd seen in the past. His murder seems more "normal" now without all of the "gay sex" and "satanic" stuff. It's like his murder is not as catchy without all of that stuff.
I wonder why DoeNet hasn't put his profile back up since he's been re-unidentified. That all happened several years ago.

Circumstances of Recovery
On May 9, 1976, the nude body of a young white male was found, badly burned and partly decomposed, in Bullitt County, KY. The hands were so badly burned that processing by our lab was impossible at that time. The hands were severed from the body and forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Identification Unit for special processing.

A fingerprint classification was made and is as follows:
17 L 1 U III 4.
M 1 U III

In 1976, the F.B.I. ran this classification through its criminal records file, and its military and civilian file with negative results. Although a forensic odontological report was not made, it was noted that the victim had the following dental characteristics:
• Old fracture of the left mandible.
• 1st Molar, upper left, rotted off at the gum.
• Lower right bicuspid was grown crooked in toward tongue. An autopsy was performed on the body and no evidence of shooting or cutting was indicated. X-ray examination did show the subject had an old, healed fracture of the left “mandudiable” (perhaps mandible). It appeared the subject had never received any dental work.

The description is as follows: Fingerprint classification is listed above:
• Race: White
• Sex: Male
• Age: 18-22
• Height: 5’ 7”
• Weight: 140-150 lbs.
• Shoe Size: 7 ½ E (actual) – Probable Size Worn: 8 D
• Eyes: unknown
• Hair: Light Brown with a reddish tint
• Teeth: #14 1st molar upper left rotted at the gum, #28 1st lower right bicuspid crooked, grown in toward tongue
• Blood Type: A-negative
• No tattoos or surgical scars
• No jewelry or identification on the body
• Clothing: Appears to have been Western style from remains that were not burned and were adhering to the body.

I don’t know about the Canadian reference? I hadn’t read through all the links and missed some details...
https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/vicap/unidentified-persons/john-doe-9
The other link for ViCAP didn’t work for me, here’s a different one.
JOHN DOE - SHEPHERDSVILLE, KENTUCKY | Federal Bureau of Investigation

On May 9, 1976, the body of a young white male was found, badly burned and partly decomposed. It is possible that the victim may have been a mechanic who specialized in Volkswagens and may possibly be from Canada.”

Pretty specific. And I hadn’t seen where there was evidence of sexual assault. Poor kid, this was torture!

First person to come to mind...Brian Joseph Page. I thought he could be the John to the Sumter Mystery Couple, but he does also fit a lot of the details here...

01/12/1975 from Salem, Oregon
- 16 year old white male (18-22)
- 5’6” to 5’8” (5’6”-5’7”)
- 140-155 lbs (140-150)
- Brown hair, brown eyes (Brown/auburn)
- Scar on left arm from iron burn
- A light blue shirt with "Hilton" on the pocket
- Blue jeans
- Brown hiking boots

He was last seen driving his friend’s Volkswagen Bug. Disappeared from a party after taking LSD... Doesn’t have anything about dental work or fractures.

Can someone help me visualize this “blue fishnet shirt”?? I know what the words mean and have a general idea of what the garment might be but what I’m picturing, I don’t think it’s accurate for the time period. My dad used to wear “mesh” type shirts in the 90s?.... Google is only so helpful for things like this....
