17-Year-Old Shot in Head, Killed in Car in Marina del Rey Parking Lot: LAPD

A 17-year-old was shot and killed in her car in a Marina del Rey parking lot Wednesday night, spurring a search for suspects, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
"We haven't had any murders over here in many, many years," Lt. John Radke, LAPD, said. "So it's very rare to have a murder at this exact location."

The LAPD responded to Villa Marina Marketplace Mall around 8 p.m.
Three or four girls were sitting in a Honda Element when a confrontation with a man ensued.

The victim was a passenger sitting in the back seat, police said.
LAPD said the female teen was shot in the head, and a male suspect ran away from her minivan before driving off.

LAPD was looking for a man wearing a blue beanie, gray sweatshirt, and took off driving a dark-colored SUV. Police believe he headed toward the 90 Freeway.
Police were also trying to track down any surveillance footage from surrounding businesses.

I heard on the local news that the teen was visiting family here. She is from Texas and the car she was in had Tx plates. She has not been named yet. Her poor family. :rose:

Not much of a description--'man with a blue beanie….'

It apparently happened in front of many people. Right in a busy mall area, in front of Jerry's Deli, a very busy restaurant.

That's tragic! We have reason to visit Marina Del Rey every year or so and I've been in the general area of the mall. It's a decent area. Apparently the shooting happened in front of Jerry's Deli, but she drove car across the parking lot to Panda Express. She was from Houston, visiting family. So sad. :(

They heard the teen scream, and then watched as she drove across the parking lot in front of a Panda Express restaurant where she died.

It is a very safe area. I was standing in that exact spot with my DIL and my baby grand daughter a few weeks ago, leaving Jerry's Deli. We stood there and talked to our friends for awhile before leaving and felt totally comfortable. This is so heartbreaking for the locals. We lived in that area for 15 yrs. So sad to see this kind of horror unfolding there.

It seems to be a random attack.

Do you know who killed that teen girl in Marina del Rey? Cops want your help

Lacey Carman of Marina del Rey wrote on Facebook that Kristine was her sister. She said she was the one driving the SUV and that “my sister was just murdered in front of me in a robbery gone wrong.” Her sister, she wrote, was “beautiful smart and undeserving” of the fate that befell her.

“I pray that God is real and holding my sisters hand right now. I pray that you never have to feel this pain or this self loathing,” she said.

Police have not commented on a report by CBS2 that the shooting may have been prompted by an attempt by Lacey Carman’s boyfriend to sell 2 pounds of marijuana.
