MO - Adam Nixson, 29, Vernon County, 28 Dec 2015

    Adam Nixson

Boat, dog found in search for missing Iowan in Missouri

"Missouri authorities searching for a missing hunter originally from Iowa said Thursday they have found the man's boat, dog, and personal items, KMBC-TV reported.

Authorities said Adam Nixson, a 29-year-old sheet metal worker from Pleasant Hill, Mo., went duck hunting on Dec. 28 with his chocolate lab at the Four Rivers Conservation Area in Vernon County, Mo.

    Nixson never returned.

Missouri Highway Patrol deputies along with Vernon County authorities and agencies from across the state have been conducting a massive search in the area where they believe Nixson's boat may have capsized. Their effort has been hampered by flooding and rising water in the area.

KMBC reported that a Vernon County detective confirms Nixson's overturned boat, dog, and personal items have been located. Crews will now begin to drain the area where Nixson was last believed to be."

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

Crews have a couple of boats out looking for Nixson every day, and says with the waters receding, they hope to find him soon. The wetlands area remains closed to hunters as crews continue their search.
"It's flooded water. It's like being in be middle of the lake. It's a tedious process," Laposha with the Missouri Department of Conservation said. "Where the individual went in at, we just don't know for sure no one was there."

I hope Adam is found safe but the length of time he has been gone makes it seem doubtful.. Sadly.
My husband duck hunts. He always puts his waders on when he gets to where he is going to hunt. Adams waders being found is puzzling to me.

The GFM Page is baffling, do they know something we don't? Is anyone on here a Duck Hunter, cause I have a question. Why do the boats capsize? This is the second one I have heard of in a matter of weeks, and I just don't understand how it happens so often. Thank you in advance....IMHO

Portabella --- i just happened upon an answer to your question (why do the boats capsize?) ...seems there really is no shortage of these stories this duck hunting season, fwiw...

Duck hunters capsize boat two days in a row
    December 28, 2015

    Snipped...
...WALTONVILLE -- Cold weather and flooding created a dangerous combination for two groups of Jefferson County duck hunters. Both ended up needing to be rescued from the Big Muddy River.

Sheriff Travis Allen calls the situations "a matter of life and death".

..."They lost motor power. Their boat turned sideways and it hit part of a tree limb that was in the water. And when it did that, it overturned the boat," explained Allen.

These boats are usually very small and if one loses power, goes sideways to a rushing current, they will capsize. He may have been overcome by hypothermia after getting tossed into the water.

BUT, I remember one case where someone disappeared her husband with the help of a BF. After getting rid of his body they set his boat adrift in a lake as if he had been hunting and fell over board.

Family of duck hunters here: There are different types of ducking hunting boats, but most boats are shallow and narrow, and tip very easily, especially if there is an unpredictable weight shift (say if a dog suddenly darts to the other side). Wakes from larger boats and logs can easily tip a duck hunter's boat. Hope this helps!

Poor dog, he probably knows the whole story and lacks the tools to communicate it. I hope Adam is found soon!
