Jacksonville Police are looking for a homeless Jacksonville, Florida man and his baby. The mother gave birth while incarcerated and the infant was given to the father who also had custody of two other children. When the mother was released, she took custody of the older children and believed the father's account of the infant being taken in by relatives when the father was again homeless after being asked to leave a homeless shelter. After a period of time, police were asked to assist in locating the infant and cannot find any relative of the father who had taken in the infant. Police are now searching for the father and the infant, and suspect that the infant is deceased.

I believe Nehemiah is a boy. The Jacksonville Sheriff's office FB page was edited to fix the mistake. https://www.facebook.com/Jacksonvil...27576742895/10153348871497896/?type=3&theater

This is so sad. Nehemiah was born in August 2014, so he is about 1 1/2 year old if he is still alive. This appears to be the only photo of the sweet baby. It looks like it was taken in the hospital when he was born.

Branch gave birth to Nehemiah at UF Health while in custody in Aug. 2014. Weedon took custody of Nehemiah a few days after he was born and returned to Sulzbacher Cetner with all three children, according to police.

Weedon told a Sulzbacher caseworker in Oct. 2014 that he was having trouble taking care of Nehemiah and decided to give an out-of-state relative custody of the child.

Weedon was asked to leave the Sulzbacher Center in Dec. 2014 due to behavioral issues. He took his two children to 'places unknown,' according to police.

Another article with some more details. http://www.wokv.com/news/news/local/jso-seeking-information-father-baby-last-seen-oct-/np2qM/

So far, they’ve not been able to locate Weedon or the baby, and Hackney says they have information that leads them to believe Nehemiah is dead.

Hackney would not speak to the specific information they’ve gathered which leads them to believe the baby is dead, saying the investigation is still very active and he does not want to compromise those ongoing efforts. He is, however, seeking any information the public may have to help them find Weedon and figure out exactly what happened.

They believe that Weedon has his hair long, like in the picture on the right above.

Per JSO at Bessie's youtube link to the presser little guy was born in August 2014 and last known alive in approximately October 2014.

So Nehemiah would be approximately a year and a half if he is still living. Last known contact with Weedon is when he tells caseworker that he is having trouble caring for Nehemiah and the following day he tells that caseworker that he gave custody to his family members.

I just saw this on the news and was coming to post the story.

This reminds me of baby Dontrell Melvin and sadly, I think the outcome will be very similar.

I don't understand how these things happen. Unbelievable.
Where are you Nehemiah? I hope you are warm, safe and happy💕

Idiot was in a family homeless shelter, he could have gotten support or given the baby up there. That is the best place to do so!

A Jacksonville man, whose infant son is missing and believed to be dead, was sentenced Wednesday to 35 years in prison on unrelated charges.

(...)

Weedon spoke to a Duval County judge before the sentencing hearing, expressing remorse for his crimes and saying his life went on a downward spiral because he couldn't earn enough to support his four children and he needed fast money to pay bills.

One of those children was baby Nehemiah, who hasn't been seen since 2014. Weedon didn't mention Nehemiah by name, and wasn't asked about the baby.

Details of Disappearance
Nehemiah's mother, Kristin Ashley Branch, was an inmate of the Duval County Jail in Florida while she was pregnant with him. On August 13, 2014, she was transported to the University of Florida hospital in Jacksonville, and gave birth to Nehemiah. She then turned the baby over to his father, Dwayne Curtis Weedon Jr., to care for until her release from custody.

A photo of Dwayne is posted with this case summary. He was homeless and living in the Sulzbacher Center, a Jacksonville homeless shelter, with the couple's two other children while Branch was in jail.

It's unclear when exactly Nehemiah disappeared. In October 2014, about two months after the baby's birth, Dwayne told a caseworker at the Sulzbacher Center that he'd made arrangements for an out-of-state relative to take custody of him. In December, he was asked to move out of the shelter with other his children because of behavior issues.

In November 2015, nearly a year later, Branch was released from custody. She contacted Dwayne and got their two older children back, and Dwayne told her Nehemiah was living with an aunt in New Jersey. Branch believed him at first, but by December, she and some of her family members were beginning to doubt Dwayne's story. On December 31, she contacted police, who began looking into the matter.

Authorities stated Weedon was estranged from his family and many of his relatives were also estranged from each other, making it difficult to track them down. They did, however, eventually determine that Nehemiah wasn't with any of Weedon's family members, and they announced they thought the baby was dead and had been dead since at least October 2014.

In February 2016, investigators located Weedon on the north side of Jacksonville; he had been living with his mother. He was arrested on charges of burglary, armed robbery and aggravated assault, which were unrelated to his son's disappearance. He pleaded guilty in December, and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

No one has been charged in Nehemiah's disappearance, and investigators haven't said why they think he is deceased. His case remains unsolved.
