    CT - Scott Basile, 23, Wolcott, 2 January 2016

    Scott Basile

Police on the lookout for missing Wolcott man

"Wolcott resident Scott Basile has been missing, according to his family, who have set up a Facebook page in hopes of finding him.

He was last seen on January 2 and reported missing on January 6. His father’s car was involved in a crash in Stamford on January 7.

Stamford police said the car was found crashed into a light pole, but nobody was in the car when they arrived on scene. They towed the car and notified Basile’s parents."

Basile is 23 years old, 5’11”, 220 pounds and may have a week-old beard. He has black hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark gray/black hoodie with matching pants. http://fox61.com/2016/01/10/police-o...g-wolcott-man/

Police in Stamford interviewed a witness to the crash who reported a black man was seen exiting the driver's side after the crash and then ran away on foot. Police are checking all banks that Scott may have gone to and have processed the car, which was returned from Stamford and is in an impound lot. They will be DNA testing the car. His family said he has a history of mental health issues.

Stamford police have since turned the car over to Wolcott police, who are analyzing the car for DNA and fingerprints and have the lead in the missing person investigation.

Basile’s family said it was very uncharacteristic of him not to show up for work or not get into contact with them and they are fearful for his safety.

Basile was last seen at a bank in Norwich a week ago Sunday. Police describe Basile as having hazel eyes, black hair and wearing a gray golf hat, black Nike pants and a hoodie.

Do mental health issues make you turn black?? Awkwardly worded article!

I hope he is found soon, so he can get some help and his family won't be worried.

I think that what they are trying to get across is that someone else was driving the car.

I do wonder what he did at the bank. Withdrawal, deposit, paid a bill?
It's possible he went somewhere to end it and it's other dude stole the car. I hope they start getting some answers.

This is the FB page the family set up for his missing information. https://www.facebook.com/FindScottBasile/?pnref=story I'm trying to piece details together.

It says, "Scott Basile is a missing 23 yr old man, 6'2", 220 lbs, with brown eyes/hair. Last seen on Jan 2nd in Wolcott, CT & Jan 3rd in Norwich. The car was found Jan 7th in Stamford, CT"

This article has pretty good detail. Also mentioned that he has had problems with mental illness. I wonder if he was self medicating. He was supposed to go to his girlfriends and cash check on Jan. 2 Girlfriend said he didn't show up but is seen at the bank in Jan. 3 and car found crashed Jan. 7th with witness saying it was a black man driving the car. I hope they are tracking his cell phone because this story is definitely fishy.

Missing Wolcott man’s car turns up in Stamford
Lt. Diedrich Hohn said that Basile, 23, was reported missing by his parents in Wolcott last Tuesday after not being seen since he left in his father’s 2008 Ford Taurus to run an errand the previous Saturday. On Thursday the car showed up in Stamford, after it jumped a curb and slammed into a light pole next to Government Center on Tresser Boulevard.

Following the accident which totaled the car, a man driving the car ran away before police got there. Hohn said video tape of the man fleeing shows that the man driving the car was not Basile. Hohn said he was not sure what caused the accident, whether it was because the Taurus was cut off by another driver or the as yet unknown person driving the car was distracted.

Hohn said Stamford police have since turned the car over to Wolcott police, who are analyzing the car for DNA and fingerprints and have the lead in the missing person investigation. Hohn said that Basile’s family said it was very uncharacteristic of him not to show up for work or not get into contact with them and they are fearful for his safety

So someone knows at least where he spent the night the first night he went missing with the car. I mean he showed up at a bank over an hour away from his home and got money. The bank is actually inside a Stop & Shop which is a large chain grocery store around here in CT. It's crazy because you can map out where his home is to where he got money (near 2 casinos) and then where the car was found is almost like a triangle and all are over an hour away from each other. I wonder if this guy could have been using drugs to self medicate himself and got drugs on Jan 2 and stayed with whoever he was doing drugs with and wanted more so he cashed his check through an ATM to pay for some more maybe OD with the people he was with and they took his car or he was doing a drug buy and someone robbed and killed him and took his car. Of course all just speculation. I would definitely be questioning his girlfriend and friends a bit more. I can't believe how many kids are out there doing heroin now and their families have no idea.

Newspaper ad says he was living with his girlfriend but had been spending time at his parents house during the holidays.

I don't recall this being posted. It's an update from the Waterbury Observer regarding a possible sighting yesterday:

The FB link isn't working. I'm not sure if it was taken down or not. Thanks though.

I saw this in The Waterbury Observer FB page in their statement about him. Is this what they were saying? " Earlier today the Wolcott PD was sent a grainy cellphone picture of a shirtless man outside a Taco Bell in Willimantic, and detectives traveled to eastern Connecticut to investigate. As of 7:30 pm tonight the Basile’s have had no official confirmation whether the man in the photograph was Scott or not.

“We are in unimaginable pain trying to find Scott,” said his mother, Jeanne Basile. “My husband and other son have driven to Willimantic to look for Scott themselves. We don’t know if that was him, or where he is. We are very scared.”

Yes, that's what I was trying to post. The link works when I click it, but there's been a lot of Facebook links seeming to work for some and then not for others. Did you see any updates on that lead when you found it?
