I just got this on my Facebook feed and didn't see a thread/post for her here, so thought I'd start one (apologies if I missed finding an existing one).

Excerpts from the Sacramento Police Department's post https://www.facebook.com/Sacramento-Police-Department-137481202396/?fref=nf

"Today, January 15, 2016, marks the 35-year anniversary of the unsolved murder of 17-year-old Mary London.

On January 14, 1981, Mary London, (pictured) a developmentally disabled student who attended Sacramento High School was reported missing after she failed to show up for a scheduled ride after school. She was last seen near the school at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The next morning, (January 15, 1981) Mary’s body was discovered near San Juan Road and Airport Road with multiple stab wounds. To this day, the motive for the murder is unknown.

Detectives are asking for the community’s help in identifying a friend of the victim by the name “Darrell.” He is described as a male black adult, who would now be approximately 57-58 years old. Darrell is not a suspect; however detectives would like to speak with him."

Cold Case: Justice for Mary London

http://fox40.com/2016/02/22/cold-case-justice-for-mary-london/

After more than 35 years, Sacramento Police are reworking an old lead that could help solve the cold case murder of 17-year-old Mary London, a developmentally disabled student from Sacramento High School.

But cold case detectives with Sacramento Police are giving the public more to go on. They want to speak with a person of interest named only in the file as Darrell. Investigators were never able to officially identify or question him, but he is believed to be a friend of London’s. He is described as a black man who would now be 57 to 58 years old.

An update on Mary's case and police believe DNA has solved the case. Vernon Parker was murdered himself a year later.

DNA links suspect to 1981 cold case murder of disabled Sacramento teen, police say

Police believe the 1981 murder of a developmentally disabled teenager in Sacramento has been solved via DNA evidence. The sole suspect was, himself, murdered a year later, the Sacramento Police Department said this week.

Authorities say DNA technology provided new leads in the 39-year-old cold case homicide death of 17-year-old Mary London, described by family at the time as a developmentally disabled 10th-grader at Sacramento High School.

Investigators with the Police Department and Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office used “investigative genetic genealogy and traditional DNA testing” to link a man named Vernon Parker to the “brutal murder of Mary London.”

I still wonder where Parker’s killer is today.
