Tim Bosma slaying: jury selection in Millard, Smich trial starts Monday ...

Dellen Millard, 30, of Toronto, and Mark Smich, 28, of Oakville, Ont., are both charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 32-year-old's death ...

He left his home with a smile — telling his wife he would be right back — but Bosma never came home. And so, the country's eyes will be on Hamilton as jury selection begins in one of the highest profile cases in the area's history ...

We'll open the first trial discussion thread when presentation of evidence is about to commence February 1.

Can I attend the Tim Bosma murder trial?

Yes. All criminal trials are open to the public.

What is the trial schedule?

The trial is taking place in Courtroom 600 at the John Sopinka Courthouse in downtown Hamilton and begins Jan. 18, 10 a.m. with jury selection, which will likely take several days. The Crown's opening arguments are expected to be in February. The trial is anticipated to continue for at least four months, sitting Monday to Thursday.

What can I expect when entering the courthouse?

The courthouse opens at 8:30 a.m. and when a large jury pool is coming in, there are often long lines down the street to get into the building and through security. There is a rear entrance (off King Street) which usually has a shorter line.

Everyone must pass through a metal detector and all bags will be searched.

Clairmont: As his accused killers face trial, please remember Tim Bosma

Tim would be 35 now.

He would be watching his little girl blow out six birthday candles. He would be celebrating wedding anniversaries with his soulmate, Sharlene, and enjoying their dream home in Ancaster. His parents, Hank and Mary, would brag about how well their doting son turned out.

That's how it ought to have been.

Instead, on Monday, the trial of Tim Bosma's two accused killers begins. Dellen Millard, 30, and Mark Smich, 28, are charged with first-degree murder.

I encourage you to pay attention to this trial. To care about this trial. To remember we are lucky enough to live in a country where everyone has a right to a fair trial. I invite you to learn the evidence in this case and scrutinize our legal system.

And I hope you will, at all times, remember Tim.

Beautiful ! Thanks for posting these Swedie. Tim, Sharlene and their precious baby are in my thoughts as always.

IMO I thought it was an appropriate time to reflect on the victims at the centre of this case and pray for them to be strong as the face another extremely difficult time in their lives.

Thank you Molly for this emotionally charged bio on Tim's life. May Tim's loved ones find some sort of solace and peace in all the wonderful memories they have of him, as they struggle day to day, through the trial against his accused murderers DM and MS. Let justice prevail.

Tim Bosma was 29 when he and his future wife planned their dream home. That story, and his happy childhood in a loving family, are recounted in this excerpt from “The Vilest Form of Evil:”

As this trial commences my thoughts are on the Bosma family and what they will have to endure in that courtroom in the coming months. They are also on the jurors who will be chosen as this experience will likely change them forever as well.
