    Nifty indeed, I like!

It would have been dark up there (sunset was at 3:49) when he was last seen at 4:30 I guess he was on his way up as others were walking back down. It is one of the last places on earth I would want to be in the dark. Seems suicide was intentional? But then why buy a return ticket (possibly because it's not much more expensive than a single).

This man has to be ID'd, it's such an odd case!

Tests are being conducted, but for now...

Police are also trying to establish whether the man killed himself or whether he died from an accidental fall or from natural causes.
His body, with no sign of injury, was found the next day. He had no wallet, phone or other ID and was carrying £130 in £10 notes.

Dovestone plane crash survivor is not mystery man found dead at Indian's Head

The real Stephen Evans has spoken to the M.E.N. and dismissed the police's theory

The mystery man, seen at Piccadilly station, and inset, Professor Stephen Evans, who survived the plane crash at Saddleworth in 1949

real-life boyhood survivor of the crash - Stephen Evans - has now come forward to rule out the theory.

Now a respected academic and university professor, he told the MEN: ďMy younger brother was killed in the crash but my parents and I were the only family with more than one survivor.
Professor Evans, who has also now spoken with detectives, believes he may be the last living survivor of the British European Airways plane crash on August 19, 1949.
Investigations to identify the unknown man found above the reservoir close to the summit of Indianís Head on Saturday, December 12, will now continue.

Could they trace the money by serial numbers to find out which bank or ATM he got it from?

Only if they were brand new notes

    Guardian:

Saddleworth Moor body could be man missing for 20 years
Police following the line on inquiry that remains could be those of
Hugh Toner, who vanished from Northern Ireland hospital in 1994

His nose is VERY distinctive, should be easy to ID him and I wonder if this is why they've asked for DNA tests from the Irish family already.

Hugh Toner has a nose that is strongly pointing to the right. Unless he had it corrected I don't see how he could be this unidentified man.

Unless he got it fixed in the intervening 20 years. IDK- the UID is not very clear. I think the ears would be telling too. Wonder why the guy disappeared from the hospital- I'd like to know more about that.
Six-year-old Shannon Sherrill disappeared from her front yard in Thorntown, Indiana in October, 1986. Someone knows where she is......

    Guardian:

Saddleworth Moor body: son of missing man tells of anxious wait for answers

    ---
Hugh Toner went missing in 1994 and he has not been seen for more than two decades. There have never been any positive sightings of him. The construction worker had admitted himself to hospital after suffering from psychological and alcohol-related problems. But just under a week later he discharged himself and was never seen again.
    ---
Would be quite something if he re-appeared a smartly dressed pensioner with £130 in his pocket two+ decades later.

Good-enough starter piece for those just arriving (though a bit heavy on nearly-debunked plane crash theory; also, the two Guardian articles above are comprehensive, if you've the time). Nothing new here for grizzled case 'tecs though, but at least another source to watch.

    Irish Times:

Body found in UK could be Irishman missing for 20 years
