Police have charged seven people in the January shooting death of a recent Georgia Lottery winner.

Craigory Burch Jr., 20, died just two months after winning $434,272 when he hit the Fantasy 5 jackpot in November.

Investigators believe three masked people broke into a home under the cover of late-night darkness on Jan. 20. Authorities believe they aimed to rob Burch of his lottery winnings, WALB reported.

The suspects were identified as Rosalyn Swain, 22; Keyona Dyous, 24; Earnest Holcomb, 27; Wayan Jordan, 17; Dabrentis Overstreen, 19; Nathaniel Baker, 28; and Anjavell Johnson, 21, according to WFXL. Ben Hill County Sheriff Bobby McLemore told the news station more arrests were expected but the attack appeared to be targeted and not random.

Did these folks think Mr Burch was keeping $430,000+ from lottery in cash in the cookie jar? Sock drawer? Billfold? (Yes, sarc, sorry)

    http://www.walb.com/story/34366464/j...d-murder-trial

A jury found Nathaniel Baker guilty of felony murder and 12 other counts. Baker was found NOT guilty on malice murder.

The jury deliberated Friday in the murder trial of a Moultrie man.

Nathaniel Baker was on trial in Fitzgerald for the January 2016 murder of Craigory Burch, Jr.

Baker was found not guilty of malice murder as the jury found that while Baker was a party to the crime, he was not the shooter, according to Rigby.

Rigby said Baker's sentencing is set for some time in February but this conviction makes him eligible for four life sentences.

The other six suspects' trials are pending but should start up some time in March.

'I'm sorry': Convicted lottery murderer apologizes to victim's family

    http://www.walb.com/story/34502252/i...victims-family

Nathaniel Baker was visibly emotional after being sentenced to life in prison, with no chance for parole, plus five years, and a $100,000 dollar fine for killing Craigory Burch in January 2016.

As Nathaniel Baker walked into the Ben Hill County courtroom, Craigory Burch's parents watched, trying to hold back tears, as they relived what happened on January 20, 2016.

"I truly feel what they did was senseless," said Burch's father Craigory Burch Sr., "It was crazy. They took our son."
"I want to tell y'all I'm sorry," Baker said. "Y'all might not think I'm sorry, but I am sorry. Even though I wasn't (inaudible) when the man got killed. But I'm sorry y'all lost y'all's son."

Burch's father said he will continue to work to ensure Baker never receives parole.

Burch Sr. said Baker's apology is not accepted, "We miss our son, and we love him."

The remaining six suspects are awaiting trial.

Have more than the 7 charged in 2016 been arrested? I hope they all enjoy the $$$ in prison. Oh, wait, they don't get the money?!

I remember the 2009 murder of lottery winner Abraham Shakespeare in FL. DeeDee Moore, who was convicted of killing Shakespeare, had been posting on WS.

I wonder how many lottery winners have been murdered since its inception. There is a blessing in being poor.

Testimonies continue in lottery murder trial

A woman who claims to be the getaway driver in a 2016 murder, testified in court.

She told jurors later that night they were driving everyone was talking about what had happened.

That's when she testified in front of the jury that she heard Overstreet said he had "peter rolled" Burch.

When the district attorney Brad Rigby asked her what 'peter rolled' means, Dyuous told Rigby and the jury that meant kill.

Rosalyn Swain, the girlfriend of Overstreet, took the stand Friday.
