HOUSTON -- An entire community is coming together to support the family of an 11-year-old girl.

Tania Rodriguez died Saturday after the truck her father was driving was hit by car that then fled the scene. The wreck happened around 6:20 p.m. in the underpass at Westpark and Highway 59. The Rodriguez family was heading to dinner when a car slammed into the rear driver’s side of the family’s Toyota Tundra. Rodriguez’s father lost control of his truck which slammed into a concrete pillar.

The Rodriguez family is calling for justice. Houston police are asking the community to be vigilant of any damage to red cars.

“One of the things that would be obvious to this case would be heavy damage to the front end of the vehicle,” explained Houston Police Sergeant Samuel Acevedo. “Look for heavy damage, look for smoke coming from the motor, look for possible broken glass on the windshield.”

I live in Houston and know that is a busy intersection, heavy traffic all times of the day. Prostitutes and homeless stand under that overpass and also on the street corners around it. Houston does not have friendly laws towards the homeless(some police will pickup a homeless person and drop them off a few miles away from their stuff and when the homeless person gets back it's gone) and well..prostitution is completely illegal so getting witness's may be difficult. The freeways have camera's and the business around the area might too..

HOUSTON - Twenty four hours after a violent hit and run accident in southwest Houston, a local family is mourning the loss of 11-year-old Tania Rodriguez.

Tania was killed after a driver ran a red light and plowed into the family's pickup at Westpark drive. and the 59 feeder. The family was just heading out to dinner.

"It sent us crashing into a concrete pillar," said Cayetano Rodriguez, Tania's father.

The driver didn't stop and fled the scene. Tania's two brothers and two sisters all ended up in the hospital too with non-life threatening injuries. Most of the children are on the mend, one of the girls is still at Texas Children's Hospital.
