Search underway for missing VA hospital chief of surgery

Spokane, Washington -
Spokane Police are asking for the public's help finding a missing man who didn't show up for work at Spokane's VA Hospital Monday morning.

Police say 49-year-old John Marshall was reported missing after not reporting to work. Staff at the VA Hospital notified his family when he didn't show up for work because it's very out of character for him.

Marshall was last seen at the YMCA in the 1100 block of North Monroe. Marshall left the YMCA just after 5 a.m. Monday morning to go for a jog and did not come back.

Marshall is described as a white man with blue eyes and brown hair. He's about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 150 lbs. He was last seen wearing a brown coat, a green T-shirt with a "We Are Marshall" logo and navy blue Spokane Shadow soccer shorts.

According to the FB page I posted above, Air One is searching for Dr. Marshall. Hope he is found! Where he went for a jog is not a good area and has lots of crime. Going out at 5 a.m. even worse :(.

When Suzan Marshall initially heard he hadn’t come to work, she feared he’d been carjacked. However, when she arrived at the YMCA about 11 a.m. his car was still in the YMCA’s parking lot with his work clothing inside. His wallet, phone, keys and gym bag were all left in a cubby in the YMCA.

According to surveillance footage, Marshall arrived at the YMCA, 1126 N. Monroe St., at 5:19 a.m. He left the YMCA at 5:33 a.m., taking only his iPod and a light coat. Police said in a news release that they don’t believe he ever returned to the YMCA. The Marshalls have a 10-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son.

Having just clicked the Facebook link that Los2188 provided, they're reporting a body has been found in the Spokane river. Reporter is on Monroe street bridge. No confirmation of who it is.

This may not be the missing doctor but it's certainly someone's loved one. :(
 
I'm confused. Why did he go to the YMCA so early in the morning? Not familiar with what services the YMCA provides, I thought it's like a youth hostel.

It's a gym type atmosphere. Basketball courts, pool, workout equipment

This YMCA appears to be a work-out gym. I know a lot of people who go the gym at this time of day before they shower and get ready for work.

I thought just the same Elainera. Thought it was a charity aimed at Christian young men but maybe it's moved on with the times..
 
The YMCA is a gym nowadays, offering classes as well as swimming and workout equipment. It usually opens early to accommodate people who want to work out before work.

Yes, my son lifeguards at our local Y from 5a-9a every day. The patrons are lined up and waiting for him to open the pool when he gets there.
