UK - Reward for identity of the Croydon Cat Ripper. Jan 2016.

An animal charity is offering a £5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the so-called 'Cat Ripper of Croydon'.

PETA believes more than 30 cats in the Croydon area of south London have been killed by the same person in the past two years.

A number were disembowelled or decapitated...

Anyone with information about the killings is asked to call the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018.

The case is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police, the RSPCA and a local unregistered charity South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (Snarl), however a perpetrator has yet to be found and the killings appear to be escalating.

UK: The M25 (Croydon) Cat Killer

I recently had this brought to my attention and am sickened and infuriated.

'Croydon cat killer' linked to Hampshire deaths and becoming 'more brazen'

The deaths of three cats in Hampshire are being linked to the so-called 'Croydon cat killer', thought to have killed 230 animals in Greater London.

A cat was found decapitated in Southsea, Portsmouth, on Sunday, two weeks after another was found killed in the same area, while in July, a cat was found killed on the Isle of Wight.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: "We believe these incidents may be linked to Operation Takahe, a series of cat deaths in the Croydon/M25 area, and is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Service."

Sergeant Tony Jeacock said: "I would like to reassure the public that we are investigating the incident and following all possible leads."

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M25_cat_killer
The M25 Cat Killer (also referred to by the media as the Croydon Cat Killer or the Croydon Cat Ripper) is thought to have killed, dismembered and decapitated more than 250 cats[2] beginning in 2014 in Croydon, but since spreading across and around London.[3][4][5] Further killings were recorded in November 2016,[3][6][7] with 10 feline victims being confirmed by police as linked.

I know what I want to do to whoever is doing this. I think it may be a young person and possibly the beginning of something much worse. Thoughts?

Thank you for starting this thread. I had heard of the Croydon cat killer but had no idea it was still happening.
Reading what these poor, much loved pets have gone through has sickened me. I'm interested to learn where you even start with a case such as this.

Through the many murders of humans I've read on this site and elsewhere, I've never, in response to the killer's personhood, used the descriptive acronym "POS." But I do now. #moggies

I've joined the SNARL Facebook page ( hope that's ok to mention, mods please remove if not) I'm horrified to see how frequently these cases are happening, and so far afield too.
Is it a case of the same person/people travelling up and down the country or a copycat?

    UK - Croydon / M25 / UK Cat Killer

I wonder if they have (or mentioned) any possible culprits, theories, or any who/what/why's? This is crazy, horrible serial killer in the making right there. Deranged cult or just a single nasty, sadistic piece of work on the loose? Would be interesting to know if it is one person or several in tandem, or a lot of random sick acts done by many lone individuals ?
    Awful and disturbing.

Not quite the Cat Killer's métier but an endorsement nevertheless:

Telegraph: Kill unwanted stray cats and keep the rest indoors, says US academic

Incidentally, en masse cat-killing in England didn't start with the Croydon matter. Google it.

Or maybe the culprits aren't humans at all. Leaving aside the number of foxes reported killed, I would suggest that foxes could well be the culprits in many of these reported cat killings, not least because foxes do routinely decapitate prey and leave the bodies behind when they kill surplus to their immediate food requirements.

I'd be interested to know how many people have been convicted of killing cats like this. Where cats in a local area are killed, they are frequently poisoned, and the blame is frequently laid at the feet of a local person fed up with other people's cats shitting all over his garden.

The most readily found conviction is of Franky Mills who did porridge for shooting cats, most of which survived.

    http://ukcriminallawblog.com/franky-...killing-spree/

Clearly decapitation does not come into the picture in either shootings or poisonings.

I'd also have to question the ability of one or a small number of individuals to carry out so many attacks across so wide an area.

I'd suggest that in urban and suburban environments such as Croydon and other cities where attacks are reported there are now many foxes living in close proximity to humans, and that foxes and cats do have an overlap in terms of prey.

That and the seemingly very small number of convictions suggests to me that the issue is the urban fox rather than an army of psychos.

    And lest we forget....

    Wiki: The Great Cat Massacre

    ---
The book, a series of essays by Robert Darnton, takes its name from its most famous chapter which describes and interprets an unusual source detailing the murder or "massacre" of cats during the late 1730s by apprentice printers living and working on Rue Saint-Séverin in Paris.
    ---
Darnton describes how, as the apprentices suffered hard conditions, they came to resent the favours which their masters gave to their cats, and contrived to deal with the nuisance cats by slaughtering them so as to distress their masters. Darnton interprets this as an early form of workers' protest.

    Perhaps an insight.
