Jefferson Airplane's Paul Kantner dead at 74

Thanks for starting this thread. He was a groundbreaking musician changing the landscape of the music field forever. He had enormous talent and vision.

I had this on vinyl but it was warped during the Great Heater Tragedy of 1980.

According to wikipedia:
In order to secure more radio airplay for the song, the full-length album version of "Miracles" (6 minutes, 52 seconds long) was cut by more than half its length for the single, which was released at a length of 3 minutes, 25 seconds. This edit was done not only for length, but to remove the sexual reference in the line "I had a taste of the real world when I went down on you, girl."

RIP Paul.

White Rabbit and Somebody to LOve were some of my first favorite songs. I had Red White and Blue stars and striped blue jean bell bottoms that I wore to their concert in SF in 1968. :candle:

I feel ya. My large box of carefully alphabetized A-D LPs* had their covers soaked remorselessly during the freakish San Antonio Rain Deluge and Subsequent Undetected Roof Leak just after mid-century.

Wow, the same day. She sounds like a lovely person with great talent, and someone who knew her own limits and priorities which I definitely respect.

'You have to look at the priorities in your life, the reality in your life,' Anderson told radio station KGON in Portland in 2011, remembering the ordeals of bringing her baby on tour. 'I had to wait in the San Francisco airport in July of 1966 for 36 hours before we got on the airplane and flew to Chicago. All the diapers were gone.'

'I don't regret having left,' she added.

"Anderson was married twice, to Merry Prankster Jerry Anderson and to Michael Alois Ettlin, who died in 2011. She is survived by two children and three grandchildren."

This was the only Jefferson Starship concert that I went to on March 9, 2007, (actually that same day, Brad Delp of the group Boston, committed suicide… so sad!! RIP Brad!)


It was a really good concert. Quicksilver Messenger Service was also there and sang "Fresh Air."

My fave song from the concert though was "Jane".

One of my fave songs though is "Miracles".

I and some friends went to The Matrix one night specifically to see The Jefferson Airplane for the first time because Ralph J. Gleason had been talking them up a whole lot. I imagine it was very early on while Signe was still with them. It was a long long time ago. I am pretty sure they often played on Sundays in the Panhandle (a section of Golden Gate Park) a few streets away from Haight Street.

I liked their music but I didn't follow them that closely. I sort of preferred Big Brother and the Holding Company (and Janis Joplin) who also played in the park and here and there around town. I really liked Janis. And, I was also a much bigger follower of The Beatles, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan, The Carter Family, Richard and Mimi Farina, The Jim Kweskin Jug Band and that sort of ilk.

Maybe one of these days I'll dig out some old photos. The memories certainly have been flooding back as some of these people die off.

I saw 'em too, but at Duke U. in Durham, NC. Ahead of their time, and so good.

Wow! I dug out QMS & played "Fresh Air" about 3 days ago! I kept singing it (sorta), so I decided to go to the source. One of my all-time favorite songs.

Just went to youtube & heard it again!
