Police using DNA to build suspect profile in 15 year cold case murder
By CNYCentral Thursday, January 28th 2016

[...]

On Super Bowl Sunday back in 2001, 18-year-old Euto was brutally murdered inside her apartment on James Street. Police say she was stabbed to death with a knife which was taken from her own kitchen.

[...]

15 years later, there has still been no arrest in the brutal slaying, but friends and family say they are hopeful they will find justice for Jill. A mission that her mother, Joanne Browning, feverishly carried out in the wake of her daughters death, until she died in 2007.

[...]

Investigators are now, again, asking anyone who lived in The James Apartments in 2001 or who might have seen something in the area the day Euto was murdered to speak with police.

Syracuse Police say the investigation is still open, and they continue to follow up on any leads that come in. If you have any information call Syracuse Detectives at 442-5222. Tips can remain anonymous.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Jenna Euto remembers her older sister Jill-Lyn fondly.

"Jill was a vibrant light that put out way before her time," she said.

Friday marked 15 years since the 18-year-old was found dead with multiple stab wounds in her James Street apartment. Police said on January 28, 2001, she made plans to watch the Super Bowl with her family. Her mom Joanne Browning and sister Jenna hadn't heard from her the rest of that day. Browning went to her job the next day but was told Jill didn't show up for work.

"Jill's family then became increasingly concerned and alarmed," said Syracuse Police Detective Tom Murfitt. "Jill's mother and sister went to check in on her at her apartment, and when they arrived, they had found her unresponsive, and it was apparent she had been the victim of a brutal homicide."

Police previously said neighbors saw her go into her apartment alone. No one was ever arrested for the crime. Murfitt said this case has one of the largest files. Many years later, they are hoping the public will come forward with information.

This was in the links Bessie posted, Jill's mother died in 2007. From the videos, she looked to be fairly young still. She found Jill and then she doesn't even get justice before she dies!

From the size of Jill's file, the police have worked the case pretty hard. Besides the DNA, looks like they haven't been able to figure this out despite working the case extensively.

They didn't mention how the murderer got into the apartment. So, it sounds like he didn't kick down the door.

They didn't mention what she was doing when the murderer arrived so either he got there shortly after she got off the phone or they can't tell from the evidence.
