NY - CaroLynn Weeks, 53, Newfield, 9 February 2016CaroLynn Weeks
Newfield woman missing since Tuesday, family says
Newfield, New York -
A Newfield woman has been reported missing after she did not return to her home Tuesday night as her family expected her to do.
A state police official was only able to immediately confirm Thursday morning that CaroLynn Weeks has been reported missing by her family. More information could be released later Thursday.
Weeks' daughter, Jamie Weeks, has said on social media that her mother was in contact with her father until about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Jamie Weeks told The Voice that the family is worried about her mother's well-being, saying specifically that they're worried she may have been involved in a crash due to poor weather conditions Tuesday night.

Really feel for the family here. On JW's FB they're saying her car has satellite radio but they're going to have to get a federal warrant.. just madness that it all has to take so long.

Weeks is described as a white female who is 5-feet-7-inches tall, medium build, with long, curly, brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a tan, winter, medium-length jacket, black scarf with a cream colored paisley pattern on it, blue nursing pants and dark colored clogs.

That's nuts that they have to get a warrant to track her car--time could be really important here.
I'm somewhat familiar with the route that she probably took between her job and home. It's not at all treacherous. There might be some spots where a person could go off the road without being seen, but in the middle of the afternoon? It could happen, but it's not a super-long distance and I think her family would have found her relatively quickly.
Also, the weather was clear at 3-3:30, if that's when she headed home. It has since snowed a few inches and the temp has dropped.
I guess I'm thinking this is a crash because her car is missing and a (short) commute was involved. Also, the place she was last seen is a seniors apartment building and there are lots of people around.
Since she's a visiting nurse, perhaps she had another destination after she left the apartment building?Came here for Kyron--I have not forgotten you. <3

Well, this is an unexpected turn:
This article says that a private investigator discovered that there's a feature on certain models of Kia that will cause the car to show up on a GPS (how??) when it's in park... but not when it's driving. And CaroLynn's car showed up in Tulsa, OK.

"You have to think outside of the box. You have to understand the person who you are doing the investigation on, understand what their psychological standpoint was at that time," said Andrews. Earlier this week the family believed Weeks may have been involved in a crash because of the bad weather on Tuesday night. However, police say they're not sure what direction she took from work, but they have checked the area of her usual route to rule out an accident. Andrews says the family is in shock by the whole situation, as Weeks was a happy person who was looking forward to becoming a grandmother.

Without more information it's impossible to do anything but guess what happened. Best case scenario: she met someone and took off to Oklahoma. But no credit card activity. She'd have to have a lot of cash or a secret credit card to buy gas for such a long trip. Worst case: after leaving her job she encountered someone who did something to her and stole her car.
I wonder how reliable the GPS information is? I recently heard a story about a couple who kept having people coming to their house looking for their iPhones--apparently the "find my phone" app mistakenly sent people there.Came here for Kyron--I have not forgotten you. <3

This info is from the UK. I don't know if it varies by country. I wouldn't think so.
From what I know GPS tracking is quite accurate.
How Accurate Is GPS?
The vast majority of vehicle trackers can pinpoint the location of a car or van to a three metre radius. Some systems are even more accurate and have just a one metre radius, yet even the ability to track a vehicle to within three metres is widely regarded as impressive.
What Can Affect GPS Accuracy?
The accuracy of GPS tracking can be affected by various factors. These include the quality of your GPS receiver, so if high accuracy GPS is important to you, you might consider investing in a very high quality tracking device.
Other factors are the position of the satellites at the time the recording was made, characteristics of the landscape where the vehicle is, and the weather. GPS tracking data can be compromised by:
being in a valley or surrounded by hills
being in a tunnel or garage

Also, reading through CW's FB, she has posted about struggling with depression and meds.

Michael Andrews is a private investigator and friend of the Weeks family. He says an important clue popped up Friday afternoon.
“We got a call from a retired police officer in Maine who told us that model of Kia has an option where, if the car is in park, you can see where it is on GPS,” he said. “So her husband Roger signed into the account and was able to successfully see that the car was parked and in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A few moments later, the car was on the move and it doesn’t show up on Maps anymore.”
Andrews says it’s been a trying time for the family.
“This is a very close family,” he said. “Carolynn is a very loving mother and a very loving wife to Roger. They had a superb relationship, and she’s just a really kind, spiritual person and a very gentle soul. It’s really taking a toll on her family, she’s very dearly missed, and everyone’s worried for her safety and well-being at this point.”
Andrews says police in the Tulsa area have been notified to be on the lookout for Weeks or her car.

CaroLynn has family in Texas and a "best friend" in Florida - if she decided to drive to either state, would she pass through OK?Justice for Jennifer

It would be out of the way if she was going to Florida, but she could very well pass through Tulsa on the way to Dallas, for instance. Oklahoma is directly north of TX. I wonder if she comes from Texas originally?
I also wonder if they have been doing the GPS thing repeatedly, and whether it is still working? Or was it just that one blip?Came here for Kyron--I have not forgotten you. <3

Private investigator Michael Andrews, who is working with the family, said they thought they had a clue on Friday, when a GPS tracker linked to the car indicated it was in Tulsa, Oklahoma. But Andrews says they are now moving away from that lead, because they
believe it was likely an error in the tracker.
“We’ve clarified with Kia that you have to have a cell phone link to that system for that system to work,” Andrews told WHCU on Monday. “As to why it showed up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, there is no explanation for that.”
Andrews says the tracker showed up once there, and then couldn’t be located again.
“We don’t want anybody to believe that that’s where the focus of the investigation is at this time,” Andrews said. “That’s the only lead we have, but we can’t verify that lead at this point.”
Andrews says anyone nationally who sees the vehicle should call State Police or 911. Locally, he says anyone who was near the Titus Towers — where Weeks was last seen — last Tuesday afternoon should come forward, as he says even small details can help break a case.
The number to contact New York State Police is 607-347-4441.
