Man’s body found inside Murrells Inlet motel

MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious death at a Murrells Inlet motel Thursday.
According to Public Information Officer Carrie Cuthbertson, deputies were called to the Brookwood Inn on US 17 Business. A man’s body was found inside a room.
The deceased man has been identified as Gary Kyle Smith, 37, of Lancaster, SC. The preliminary autopsy showed no signs of trauma, according to Coroner Kenneth Johnson. The cause of death is pending and Smith is believed to have died shortly after midnight Thursday morning, adds Johnson.

Police have ruled the incident as a “suspicious death,” and expect to learn more about what happened pending the results of an autopsy, performed Thursday afternoon at MUSC, Lt. Neil Johnson with Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said.
