CA - Prasad Moparti, 55, Walnut Grove, 13 February 2016

    Prasad Moparti

Day 2 of searching reveals no sign of bride's missing dad

    Walnut Grove, California -
A second day of searching revealed no clues in the search for a man who disappeared while attending his daughter's wedding reception.

A Sacramento's Sheriff's Department boat patrolled the waters of Steamboat Slough near Walnut Grove on Monday.

A cadaver dog on board sniffed the water's surface.

However, by late afternoon, crews said they were calling off the water search at least for the evening.

According to deputies, 55-year-old Prasad Moparti had traveled from India to attend his daughter's wedding.

The reception took place at the Grand Island Mansion on Saturday afternoon.

Deputies said Moparti walked away by himself at about 4 p.m. and never returned.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

Prasad flew in from India about a month ago for the Walnut Grove wedding and was described as being recently homesick.

“It sounded like he was a little depressed and he wanted to go back to India,” Durga told KFOR.

Rajesh Gutta, Durga’s husband, said Prasad was “not doing well.”

Californian newlyweds Durga Moparti and Rajesh Gutta are supposed to be on their honeymoon - but instead they have spent the past three days desperately searching for the bride's father, who vanished from the wedding reception Saturday.

Prasad Moparti, 55, was last seen by family members walking down a road outside the Grand Island Mansion in Walnut Grove, which served as the setting of his daughter's traditional Indian wedding ceremony.

Good question. If he was just homesick-- he was most likely flying back soon, right ?
Maybe he fell in the water and couldn't swim ?

How devastating to have him disappear in the midst of the wedding celebration.

Search has been called off for now. Moparti does not have money or his passport on him according to daughter.

In a prepared statement, Turnbull said Moparti was considered a voluntary missing person but considering his lack of familiarity with the area and history of depression, the department “utilized all resources available in attempts to locate him.”

“Family members.... indicated Moparti suffered from depression, and that he showed indicators of his depression leading up to the wedding,” the Sheriff’s Department stated in press release.

Prasad Moparti, an executive with India’s National Mineral Development Corporation, based in Hyderabad, had been in the U.S. since January, his daughter, Durga Moparti – the bride – told India-West. He was scheduled to return to India on Feb. 26.

Durga Moparti, an Indian American business analyst with WellPoint, in Cerritos, Calif., believes her father may have walked to a nearby bridge and slipped off. A spokesperson for the Grand Island Mansion told India-West that the nearest bridge to the villa is at Steamboat Slough, about three miles away.

On Tuesday night, the search was suspended indefinitely. “All resources were utilized to search for Moparti on the ground, water, and from the air with no results,” the sheriff’s department said.

Father Who Went Missing After Daughter’s Grand Island Mansion Wedding Found Dead

The body of man who went missing on his daughter’s wedding day has been found during a water recovery on Monday.

Prasad Moparti was smiling in the last family picture he took before he mysteriously vanished. But Durga Moparti says her father seemed unhappy after arriving from India.

Crews working a water rescue on Monday found his body in the Walnut Grove area.

I've been following this case, and it is very sad indeed. I'm presuming it was suicide, and not accidental? If so, then it sounds like he held on long enough to see his daughter actually get married, then walked off after the reception itself. Although it does seem very selfish, and it is, the despair of depression like that is very hard to understand because to him, the logic was likely that now his daughter is taken care of, everyone is happy, and no one will miss him.

Doubtful that the autopsy will reveal whether he slipped or jumped or what happened. Regardless RIP Prasad, and may his family have some healing in their hearts although I can't imagine their grief and their pain.

Picture of near where body was found. When they were searching, a fisherman said it would be easy to fall in the water and then difficult to climb out.
