Reminders for reference as we have respectful discussion in each of the daily trial discussion threads:

Abuse of the WS Alert feature can have consequences including timeout or worse. Such abuse includes, but is not limited to:

    • Overuse of the alert system

    • Repeatedly alerting on the same poster

    • Demanding a specific outcome

    • Alerting on the same post more than once

Once you have alerted on a post, please move on without discussing it, and don't question the decisions of our Administrators, Moderators or Owners, and don't expect personalized responses with explanations about a particular decision.

Note: Only testimony that is published through MSM reporting (articles and tweets) is allowed. Keep discussion focused on testimony as it becomes public knowledge and remember to link up to MSM reporting of same.

Any testimony that might remain under Publication Ban, and any courtroom discussion that takes place when the jury is not present, is strictly off-limits.

The principle of “innocent until proven guilty” is for the court room … it is not required that Websleuths members adhere to that principle. Members are allowed to discuss, speculate, theorize, and judge according to opinions they develop from following the specifics of the case.

Tim Bosma trial: testimony from officers who found the incinerator
By Adam Carter, CBC News Posted: Feb 17, 2016

Forty members of Waterloo Regional Police took part in the Tim Bosma homicide investigation.

Testimony continues Wednesday in the trial of the two men accused of murder in the death of Hamilton's Tim Bosma. The jury is expected to hear from police officers who found an incinerator called "The Eliminator" on Dellen Millard's farm not far from Waterloo, Ont.

We're about 25 minutes away from the beginning of today's testimony. Three weeks in, there's still a line to get into the courtroom. I'll be giving updates throughout the day.

Bosma's father Hank just got a tearful hug from a well wisher in the courtroom. The Bosma family has three rows of court seats full most days with supporters.

Smich now being led into the courtroom. Wearing a big grey sweater, as he is most days.

Millard now entering the courtroom. We're running a few minutes behind this morning - not sure why.

Justice Goodman now in the room. No jury yet - there's a legal argument to happen first.

(Updates may be sparse for a bit, sounds like.)

I can't talk about anything happening in the room until the jury is here.

    From the Crown's opening statement:

"The opinion of the expert was that inside the vault area was cremated adult human remains of one individual."

The police were still concerned about the well-being of Tim Bosma and his whereabouts. Police looked inside the Eliminator and it appeared to have been cleaned out, but in looking straight down into the main vault area, the Forensic Identification Officer saw what looked like bones. She did not know if they were human or animal. This officer took the bone(s) out of the Eliminator, photographed them and contacted a Forensic Anthropologist at the University of Toronto who police knew from previous cases. As it was a missing person investigation, police wanted an immediate opinion on whether the bones were human.

The preliminary opinion given by the Forensic Anthropologist was they were human bones and the following morning – a Sunday – this expert attended the police station, examined the bones and confirmed her initial opinion that they were human bones.

In the following days, this Forensic Anthropologist and a police Forensic Identification Officer attended the farm and removed, examined and analyzed the remains in the Eliminator.

The opinion of the expert was that inside the vault area was cremated adult human remains of one individual.

58 bone fragments, 2 virtually complete bones and one tooth were recovered from inside the vault. 17 of these bone fragments and 2 complete bones were definitely human – the
tooth appeared human. The remaining 41 bone fragments exhibited characteristics of human bone.

It was her opinion that person was likely male and under 40 years old.

so would those bones no longer contain DNA? Can you still not get DNA from cremations?

Could be a little bit of time before we get the jury in this morning.

(I would imagine the defense is pretty desperate to create roadblocks when it comes to the incinerator.)

While we're waiting, I'll post a few more exhibits that were released yesterday.

(Incoming I guess, but may be stuff we saw on abro's stuff last night. Will repost anyway for those who didn't catch the end of yesterday's thread, assuming he puts them up in a way I can link to.)

Here's the console of Bosma's truck. The orange outlines are places in which blood was found.
