GA - Jamal Dunlap, 4 Scalded to death by 15 yr old Sister & Aunt, Atlanta (Jonesboro)

A 15-year-old Georgia girl and her aunt are charged with murder and child cruelty after the girl's 4-year-old brother was critically burned in a tub of hot water, authorities said Thursday.

When a 4-year-old Clayton County boy urinated on himself, his teen sister allegedly struck him multiple times with a leather belt, then held him in a tub of hot water as punishment.

And though their aunt, Aleisha Harris, knew the boy was injured, she chose not to get medical help for him until about 24 hours later, which Clayton County police said Wednesday contributed to Jamal Dunlap’s death.

Clayton County police the child was rushed to a hospital burns covering 40% of his body where he passed away from his injuries.

    What an awful story.

A side story to this, is was this tap water that was so hot it killed this child? I would think that would be a code violation of some sort to have water coming out of the bathroom tap so hot that if you sit in it, it kills you.

Obviously this was purposefully done to hurt him, but it's hard to believe his sister or aunt meant to kill him.

Regardless of what they meant to do, it seems that killing him is exactly what they did. How could they possibly have thought that was an appropriate punishment? This sickens me.

Young children are more vulnerable to burn injuries, and immediate treatment is essential. The water heater setting could have been within the normal safe range for families that don't have homicidal teenage sisters and aunts.

Where's Mom and Dad? I know the links above said that the parents left the kids with the aunt but where the heck are they and how long have they been gone?

Just a word of caution to the kind souls here who care about Jamal: There are a couple of very disturbing photos of his injuries out there on the web (I've mostly seen them posted in connection with a photo of the aunt). Just be aware. Take care!

Harris’ brother told Channel 2 Action News his sister is only to blame for trying to “help a family in need.”
He said Harris was taking care of the children because their parents left them with the family and never returned to get them.
“The sister said he needed to be in the bath because he peed on himself,” Harris’ brother told Channel 2.
Harris’ brother told Channel 2 she didn’t take the child to the hospital for a reason.
“We don’t know if they have insurance or not, so my sister was just taking care of him,” he said.

OMG, I saw one of the pictures. Awful. That poor boy.

I'm also seeing articles reporting that the water was 155°. That's hot enough to cause 3rd degree burns on adults in about 1 second. This poor little boy was held in the water... for how long?

When they finally sought help for him, his core body temp was 80°.

“This is one of the worst (cases) I’ve seen,” Woodall said.

Im not liking the excuse of "she didn't know if they had insurance".....isn't everyone required to have insurance now, of some sort? Also, even if that is the case, take him anyway!!!! They would not have charged her and they would not have turned him down!

Also, if the water was that hot how did they not get burns on their hands and arms while holding him down??

    RIP McStays
