During the second hearing, Prince William County prosecutor Paul Ebert said Hamilton had a previous conviction for assault in either South Carolina or Tennessee in 2007.

The sister of the woman killed in a*domestic violence shooting*that also claimed the life of a Prince William County police officer hopes her sister's tragic death will start a conversation about the dangers of domestic violence.

Prince William County police say Crystal Hamilton, 29, called 911 Saturday evening after getting into an altercation with her husband, 32-year-old Ronald Hamilton.

Crystal Hamilton's sister, Wendy Howard, says the argument between the couple started when Crystal wanted to go out with her friends.*

Investigators believe Crystal was killed before officers arrived. The Hamiltons' 11-year-old son was also home at the time of the shooting, but wasn't injured.

Ronald Hamilton then confronted and shot all three responding officers when they approached the couple's front door, according to court documents.*

Officer Ashley Guindon also died of her injuries.*

    [...]
But Howard said their mother had been banned from the family's home after she began to pick up on issues during her visits.

"Crystal was very private and for reasons of loving her husband and want[ing] to work with her husband, she didn't open up about those issues," Howard said

Howard said her nephew had just celebrated his 11th birthday that day. He found his parents arguing when he returned home from a sleepover at a friend's house. The boy told his aunt that the situation escalated, and his mother told him to run.*

According to Howard, her nephew saw his father pick up and throw his mother. As the boy ran down the stairs, he heard gunshots.

I believe I have read about 6 or 7 police officers who were murdered while on duty and they happened in a week's time in Feb. 2016 and others have been severely injured as well. So there does seem to be a spike in murders of officers this year already.

The last update I read on the officer shot in the head in MS he is on life support. I haven't had a chance to see if he has passed away by now but it sure doesn't look like he will be able to recover. And its only the end of February. Its seems like some criminals when confronted by police officers would rather shoot to kill police officers rather than simply comply.

It certainly shows how dangerous their job duties are and even the spike in homicides for them this year doesn't included the 49 Thousand + police officers who are attacked/assaulted/severely wounded each year by criminals. I don't know of any other profession here in the states that has a job as dangerous as our police/correction officers. It makes me respect them even more because they know they very likely could be assaulted/wounded or murdered yet they still go to their jobs everyday serving and protecting their communities.

I pray everyday for the police officers all across our nation. I have never seen the toxic atmosphere they are having to endure like they are now.

Domestic violence calls are some of the most dangerous times for our officers along with simple traffic stops and serving warrants.

But now they can be executed simply filling up their police vehicle with gas while in uniform.

I hope I see the day when police officers are once again respected and appreciated for all they do for their communities. All have been punished for what a teeny tiny amount of bad ones do. That is so wrong on every level.

Its heartbreaking to know we have another fallen officer and two wounded simply for trying to do their job. Its also heartbreaking to know another mother/wife was murdered due to domestic violence. I pray for her son and her family as they endure their tremendous loss.

Well, thankfully, the last time I checked, 'Line of duty' deaths were down by 13%, so that is a totally good thing!

eta -- as of today, 'Line of duty deaths' are down by 18%, which is even better.

According to the Officer Down site, that drop in numbers is because accidental deaths is way down. But cops being shot by others is WAY WAY up.

It is good to know that accidents are down but its mind boggling to know the murder of police officers are up by 1100%!

I wonder how many have already been assaulted this year or severely wounded?

I know the FBI does keep up with them by year but we usually see that after the year has ended. I wish they had a running update on that as well as murders of police officers.

Capital murder trial for man accused of killing wife, officer postponed
The jury trial for a Woodbridge man charged with multiple counts of capital murder for allegedly killing his wife and a police officer was recently postponed in Prince William Circuit Court.

The trial of Ronald Hamilton, originally scheduled to begin this June, will now begin on March 5, 2018.
