IL - Dillon Scott, 20, Spring Valley, 28 February 2016

    Dillon H. Scott

    Where is Dillon Scott?

    Spring Valley, Illinois -
On Monday, Feb. 29, Bureau County Sheriff James Reed stated at about 2:52 a.m. Feb. 28, the Bureau County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle accident on Route 29 nearly a mile west of County Road 3065 East in Hall Township.

Deputies located a green 1994 Cadillac that had collided with a guardrail, and no one was located at the scene. Moments before the accident, Spring Valley Police Department had reported a green Cadillac and a dark colored Dodge pickup had left Spring Valley westbound on Route 29 driving recklessly at a high rate of speed. It was later determined a sole male occupant, Dillon H. Scott, 20, of Princeton had fled the scene of the accident. There was no evidence to believe Scott had been seriously injured.

A witness stated a male subject fitting Scott’s description had come to their home asking for assistance and fled when the owner advised they would contact the police. A search of the area for Scott was conducted with the assistance of the Bureau County Sheriff’s Mounted Search and Rescue and Peru Police K9. A unified command post was set up and aid was given by Echo Bluff Girl Scout Camp. The search concluded with no evidence to suggest that Scott was still in the immediate area.

Adding to the mystery, Karshner said that Scott's wife, Brienna, has told the family "Dillon is OK," but has yet to explain what she meant to worried family members.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

Also through the investigation, authorities arrested 27-year old James Pierson of Streator, who attempted to conceal the pickup truck involved. Pierson was charged with obstructing justice and driving while suspended.

Police: Missing man is on parole, knows he's in trouble

The search for a missing Princeton man, while still open, has yielded no additional clues, according to Bureau County sheriff Jim Reed.

Dillon H. Scott, 20, of Princeton was last seen shortly after fleeing from the scene of an accident at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27.

“At this point, the investigation is active,” Reed said, “the thing to remember, is that (he) left the scene voluntarily. The fact is, he was involved with two other agencies in a chase just prior to the accident. He left the scene, he’s on parole and he knows he’s in trouble. We don’t believe at this time that there’s anything suspicious.”

Dillon Scott — a Bureau County man with Streator family connections — has been missing 18 months since he disappeared in the early morning hours following a minor traffic accident in rural Spring Valley on Feb. 28, 2016.
Scott's family is convinced he is dead, either by exposure to the elements from being lost in the woods or a victim of foul play by someone he knew.

    Bureau County authorities think otherwise.

The last time Sheriff Jim Reed spoke to The Times about Scott in 2016, he suggested the young man may be hiding from a possible jail sentence for breaking parole and facing traffic infractions.

Bureau County Sheriff Jim Reed has not returned phone messages for comment.

The Times filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the files in the Scott case in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the case.

This week, it was denied by Bureau County Sheriff's Office, citing that disclosing any official information would "obstruct an ongoing criminal investigation and interfere with pending or actually and reasonably contemplated law enforcement proceedings."

Scott's mother, Becky Tunget, of Streator, disagrees.

"It's not an ongoing investigation," Tunget said. "The (Bureau County) investigators won't return my phone call. They don't care about my family or finding my kid."
