Tempe police seek driver in hit-and-run that injured boy

Investigators said a passenger might have been in the Chevrolet with the driver at the time of the collision.
Carbajal also said the driver could be looking at criminal charges because the driver didn't stop to check on the boy and talk with police.

Now Zion has a fractured leg and abrasions, but thankfully, he’s alive.
It’s a much different outcome from the heartbreaking situation with her son Malachi in 2013.
“He was 22 months when he was suffocated by my ex-husband,” she said.
Jamie’s ex-husband Juan Campbell pleaded guilty to third-degree murder.
Authorities say Campbell put his hands over the boy’s mouth to stop him from crying and smothered him. Jamie will never forget the pain of losing a child in such a tragic way ... but in this case?

Unfortunately the security camera on the city bus didn’t pick up the license plate number, but Tempe police say there may be more footage on another bus. They’re looking into that now.

Tempe Police are asking for the public’s help to locate and identify the driver of the suspect vehicle, who is described as a white or Hispanic female in her twenties. It is believed a female passenger was also in the vehicle during the collision.

A Tempe boy, 8-year-old Zion Patterson, on a skateboard is violently hit by a car and thrown to the ground.

The worst part? The vehicle appears to stop for a brief moment (notice the brake lights) but ultimately decides to continue driving. While the boy quickly gets to his feet, no one in the car pulls over to check on him.


"If I would have done that to your child, I would have at least waited," said Zion's mom, Jamie Campbow.

It appears the incident happened within a neighborhood so there is not a designated crosswalk.

Police released the video on Tuesday, March 8 asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect's vehicle.

"A lot of times people are scared for whatever reason: they don't have a license, they don't have insurance, maybe they have been drinking, maybe they have warrants." Tempe Sgt. Steve Carbajal said. "Who knows what the reason is, but the bottom line is it really compounds the situation and aggravates it is when you leave the scene."
